Was at Wrigley today, hot but nice game.

I’ll say it again.  Javy Baez is the most exciting player in baseball.  MLB would be wise to get him in HR Derby and promote this kid as much as possible.

To the idiots out there, exciting doesn’t mean best.  Though he may be the best “tagger” and “slider” I’ve ever seen.

Can't take your eyes off the field when Javy's out there.  The thing about the steal of home yesterday was, everybody in the ballpark knew it was coming and he pulled it off anyway.  Why Liriano didn't step off and fake to see if Javy would jump is a mystery.   Probably would've been better for them to let Russell steal 2nd and not give up a run that way.

Your point about him being the best slider is dead on.  He rarely goes in with the hand nearest the base.  It's kind of a swim move where he tucks the closer hand back and rolls on his side as the catcher/fielder leans back to try to put the tag on but comes up with nothing but air while the other hand is sneaking in the back door.  Its a technique that I bet we see more and more of in the game now that its been successful with Javy.

I've already seen Almora and Russell use that same move, though not as effectively or necessary as each of those cases may be.  Rizzo may have but I'm not sure.  Looked like he tried, but came up short.  It's hard to tell with him. He can sometimes look less like a fish and more like a whale.

It'll be interesting to see the first time someone tries to use that swim move on Javy as he is trying to pull off that snap tag.

I agree he is the most exciting player in the game and it looks like MLB is slowly but surely starting to market him. The did a nice segment about his baseball IQ on the MLB Network a week or so ago.

First time since 1907 that the Cubs have used two position players on the mound.

I believe he was the guy on the balcony Marlon Brando was yelling at in "A Streetcar Named Desire."

Cubs get Hamels for a couple of low level minor leaguers.  Low risk move.  Numbers aren't great but he's a vet who could be the John Lackey for this staff down the stretch and into the post season.

You get 27 outs, might as well use them all...except for the last one

Well this is interesting...

https://www.mlb.com/news/daniel-murphy-claimed-off-waivers-traded/c-291272560

Since they have the best record in the NL, the Cubs have the lowest priority in the waiver order yet every team in the league has a better 2B than this guy?  What's going on here?

Also, what does this say about the Cubs?  Why add another infielder when you've already got good depth with Bode, Baez, Russell, Zobrist, Happ  and a soon to be returning Kris Bryant (hopefully) at the 3 non-1B  positions?  Things that make you go hmmmm.....

As for the Nats, they also dealt Matt Adams back to the Cards so is this the beginning of their white flag trading period?

Hope the Cubs got the 2015 NLCS Daniel Murphy...

Nice to see the Cubs beat up on the Reds and pay them back for that 4 games sweep in Cincy.

SP has been much much better, Murphy looking like pre-injury Murphy on O at least, Bryant going on rehab, 23 games above .500 with 33 to play and a 5 games lead in the loss column in the Div, they also play basically the last 3 weeks in Chicago.....Things looking much better than a few weeks ago.

Considering how blazingly hot the Cards have been lately and to still be up on them is a real statement.

I always find it a bit irritating when fans and media start to panic in the dog days of the season when the Cubs aren't blowing teams out night after night.  This team has proven it knows when to put the hammer down and when to ease off and save some gas in the tank.  We're seeing that now...again.  Same thing happened last year when they turned it on in the second half.   The Cubs games in hand are the ones they need to win and last night was one of them.  Lester got off to a rocky start but settled down on a night when baseballs could've been flying out all over the yard.  No panic.  Experience is the best weapon.
