I think it has always been his to lose. You will probably see him named manager right before the playoffs start if STL has clinched a spot.

Well deserved, I say. I'm not sure about the the wisdom of signing him for a three-year deal, but I guess that's the way things are done these days.
Then again, I was perusing team stats today, puzzling over how this team with so much mediocre talent is now doing so well. Might just have something to do with the strings he's pulling. Decent (for the most part) pitching always helps too. I guess my point is that on paper this team does not look impressive, but they're winning, and that kind of reminds me of the days of Whitey Ball.
