I stand by dumping Matheny was the right call, but they need a front office overhaul too.  We keep hearing how deep our starting pitching is yet our rotation is easily one of the worst in the NL

Be thankful the Cubs bullpen is trash......

I wish we had just blown the money to resign pujols.  At least we would have had some fun milestones to watch while they floundered and did nothing

These last few years have been rough, they just arent an enjoyable team to watch.  Definition of mediocrity that is perpetually stuck in close but no cigar for the lame second wild card and devoid of any HOF/MVP caliber talent to enjoy

Yadi is a Hall of Famer.

I like Yadi and will be delighted if he gets in.  I know this gets tossed around a lot, but Ill believe it when I see it.  His numbers really dont compare favorably to other hall of fame catchers and the fact the cardinals are closing out his career as such mediocre bums is really going to hurt the "intangibles" factor he had going when the team was always going to the postseason and making good runs.

Bad take. He'll be in easy.

-Will likely go down as the 2nd greatest defensive catcher of all time

-Longevity at the toughest position in baseball will end up with him being top 5 all-time in total innings caught

-Highly respected by peers and baseball writers. His impact on the game is recognized by those who vote

- He's one of 14 people with at least 9 all-star appearances and 9 gold gloves. All other 13 are already in HOF except Ichiro.

This team is unbearable.  They have made no improvements over the last four years.  Their golden boy minor leagures have not panned out, they have made many questionable trades and/or sub-par acquisitions, nor are they healthy.  Some day, these nickel and dimers will wake up and figure out this team is mediocre at best.    I just can't watch them anymore.

Defense often gets criminally underappreciated in favor of offense (which is like why catchers in general are under represented in the hall), but as you said he does have the respect of writers.  Yadi is easily my favorite player so Ill be absolutely delighted to be wrong, but Im just sort of braced to be disappointed i guess.

I’m not saying I agree or disagree but he’s not a sure bet HOF....it will be interesting.

Did you seriously just post a twitter poll that likely got bombarded by Cardinals fans as evidence of.... something?

This article does a good job pointing out that Yadi's numbers dont actually compare that great with others:

https://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2017/4/10/15237094/yadier-molina-cardinals-hall-of-fame-framing-defense

Yadier's case relies heavily on defense and intangibles, and the question is when he has been retired for 5 years and everyone is giving his numbers a rectal exam how well will it hold up?  I dont know if it is as sure thing as people make it out to be

I posted a poll from one of the most well known national MLB writers with 43,000 votes.

You posted a two-year old article by this guy.

Pardon me for not posting up to your standards.

A fan poll is a fan poll, how exactly does Buster being well regarded make a fan poll a more accurate gauge of anything?  Plus I would like to point out that even the biased fan poll did not get Yadi to the 75% threshold needed, so good job?

and I notice you merely attacked the guy’s qualifications but do not really have a counterpoint to his core argument that Yadi’s numbers don’t actually compare super favorably to other catchers who are in and out of the hall.  Yadi’s whole enshrinement relies on nebulous eye test “intangibles” as opposed to hard numbers, that IMO means it isn’t as sure of a thing as people want to pretend.
