If we luck out and win the division or get a wildcard, we're done. No starting pitching depth.

Actually, we have depth. What they don’t have is a shut down starter. 2011 had a lack of depth. But they had a strong bullpen and Carp. We basically have a bunch of 4-5 starters and nothing top tier.

Yea we haven’t had a true ace since Carp retired and like you said at this point we don’t even have a 3 caliber guy.  You can’t win in the playoffs with no ace, especially if you don’t have a thumper offense.  The farm system is incapable of delivering one apparently so they need to suck it up and spend the 30 million a year it will take to sign one

Carp retired in 2012. In 2013 Wainwright finished 2nd in Cy Young voting and in 2014 he finished 3rd. Carlos Martinez also made all-star appearances in 2015/2017 and was a borderline ace during that period. So the statement about Carpenter is a stretch. Regardless, they sure as hell don't have one this year and the front office hasn't helped with that.

Anyone expecting more than what you see on the field right now is high.  Mediocre team in a horrible division in a pathetic league.

1-5 or 1-6 since trade deadline? 😀

Not a single starter hitting over .270.

Not a single player can hit with RISP.  pile of excrement.

Cubs are useless on the road and we do pretty good on the mediocre to weak teams so we'll never fall out of the race here

Who knew NOT having a .210 hitter in the lead off spot would work wonders for an offense.

Major props to Martinez for managing to blow a 3 run save and extra props for Shildt for sitting on his ass until it was too late.

Legimate major props to Carpenter, role is reduced and despite the rough year really stepping up

I agree. Hopefully we win a couple more this weekend.

Flaherty has put himself in position for a likely top-5 Cy Young finish. Wainwright has put together a pretty gutsy season as well.
