in this case it was. the coaching hires might have looked good at the time. most up them didn't end so well. you also forget about the massive debt he ran up.I'll just say this and be done with this conversation. I don't have to ask anyone from the athletic department or anywhere else about Tommy Bell. I didn't work in the athletic department but did work with Tommy on several projects. My experience with him was always positive and I still think he was and would have continued to be very good for SIU. There was an agreement to fire you know who and Tommy was stabbed in the back by the Chancellor and Kill. Those of you that still like him are entitled to your opinion but mine will never change. The end.
Getting fired isn't always "getting stabbed in the back." Sometimes the boss just doesn't like you or thinks he can find better or you have BO or you fart too much or you talk way too much like Dominic Hoscher.

two years is not really rebuilding anything especially today. temporary fix. he did build at SIU/NIU though. but then he sued us because he no longer agreed to the terms to which he put his signature on.Whatever your opinion of Jerry is you have to admit the man can resurrect football programs because everywhere he has been the programs reached heights they haven't seen in years or if ever hope he is alright health wise

Jerry has a penchant for what appears to be “wearing out his welcome” on a regular basis. He’s great coach and great at rebuilding programs, but that always seems to some kind of abrupt end.

He was thoroughly maligned here for being predictable. Went to Eastern Michigan as OC. Went to Fresno State as HC. Now about to possibly win a National Championship at Washington. Having better players makes all the difference!
He also turned around Minnesota. He was our interim athletic director well after he sued SIU for a very nominal amount of money. He is still held in high regard and has great relationships with many folks within and outside the university.
