Thought I'd start the NHL thread with a non playoff post. With the Hawks playing meaningless late season games, its almost out of morbid curiosity that I'm still watching games but last night I saw something in an NHL game that I've never seen in my 40+ years of watching hockey. Both Hawks goaltenders got hurt and they had to use the emergency backup that every home team has to have on site for just such situations. The guy made seven saves and didn't let one in. Got 1st Star too. From beer leagues to living the dream....the ultimate fantasy camp
The Blackhawk announcers has a good time with this.......even "Q" was chuckling.

Have you played with or against him. Do you know him? That must have been so cool for him, and scary.
“True terror is waking up one morning and discovering your high school class is running the country.” —Kurt Vonnegut
No I haven't faced him. He plays at a different rink from me and no doubt at a much MUCH higher level. 😆
Hawks with a gut punch on the Blues last night, coming back from down 3-1 and scoring the winner with :06 left in regulation. StL's playoff prospects took a big hit with that loss. Blues have been streaky all season but even if they do manage to squeeze into a wild card spot, what momentum will they have for game 83?
Hawks just announced that Q and Bowman will be back next year. Glad they didn't panic at the end of a bad season. Q's not suddenly a bad coach and Bowman didn't suddenly forget how to sign talent. Players underachieved no question but Tampa missed the playoffs last year and look at them now. It's a bump in the road (hopefully). If they miss the playoffs next year, then heads will roll no doubt but there's a lot of guys responsible for this current mess, not just the coach and GM.
They should be back.
Thought the Vegas Cinderella story would come to a crushing end with this first round matchup vs. the Kings but now the Knights could be the first team to advance.

And they have in a 4 game sweep. Impressive.
1 Cup between the Final Five.
And if not for a skate-in-crease goal in ‘04, it could be 0 Cups.
Normally I have a problem finding someone to root for this late. This year I have a problem finding someone to root against.
skate in the crease goal was the Stars
The Lightning cup came about because they were a good team and NHL replay officials couldnt determine if Gelinas' shot crossed the red line; hell, it was pretty tough for me. Calgary laid an egg in Game 7 and Fedotenko scored 2 goals.
Want Game 7 of Preds/Jets to go OT, nothing better than game 7 sudden death.
Glad Boston's out. Marchand is such a tool.
Vegas is such an amazing story but this is what a salary cap gets you...some talented guys that teams just can't afford to hang on to.
With the Caps finally slaying the Pens last night, this might get them over the hump.
I'm pulling for the Jets. About time a Canadian team won the Cup. I think they've all (except for Winnipeg) been to at least one final since the Habs last won it in '93. Gonna be tough to win a Game 7 in Bridgestone but nothing like a winner take all.
Go Jets Go! Didn't think the Preds would lose at home but there ya go. Gotta give their fans credit. They were loud the whole game right up until the Jets scored the 4th goal.
As much as a Vegas-Winnipeg conference final isn't making NBC giddy about the ratings, that'll be some fun hockey to watch. Both great skating teams.

I'm sure NBC isn't crazy about Winnipeg....but Vegas is a different story. The Golden Knights have created a story that is embraced across the nation and that's rare in hockey (as most teams have regional appeal). Even with a Canadian team in the matchup, I bet their ratings are strong. Winnipeg and San Jose would have been far worse as no one in the midwest or east coast would have cared about either team.
I'm sure that NBC would prefer the Blackhawks being involved......but they can't be disappointed with the ratings the Jets-Golden Knights series has drawn thus far.....
