A 13-42 record gets $340,000 and moving expenses. Disgusting.

For whatever reason MSU just can't seem to produce a consistent winner in football.  Kind of like SIU has been.....but it seems to be a bigger issue at MSU.  Considering the resources and facilities at that university, one wouldn't think it should be such a monumental task.

From the Springfield News-Leader:

"Jerry Kill

I had this name suggested to me multiple times on Thursday, and it was later mentioned by Art Hains on his afternoon radio show — so welcome to the list, Jerry Kill.

Kill spent the 2019 season as the special assistant to the head coach after serving as Southern Illinois' athletics director from 2018-19.

He has ties to the area, having served stints as a defensive and offensive coordinator at Pittsburg State. He was also the Webb City High head coach from 1988-90.

Kill has been successful at the FCS level from when he was the head coach at Southern Illinois. There, he led the Salukis to No. 1 rankings and he became the school's all-time leader in winning percentage before leaving for FBS head coaching jobs at Northern Illinois and eventually Minnesota.

I'm of the mind that Missouri State should get a young up-and-comer with an offensive mind. No one should care if a young guy wins in Springfield and leaves because at least the coach won.

But if the 58-year-old Kill is interested? Give him the job."

Makes a ton of sense if it is Kill given the timing of the firing and Kill being in Carbondale last week (stopping by on his way to Springfield?)

If he's committed to the job, Kill would be a hell of a hire for them.  Not sure you can rely on him being there long-term though.

It would be a great hire on paper. In reality, it could be a disaster.  Kill is unlikely to take on another project like this in FCS anyway.

If anyone could turn their football program around it would be Jerry Kill, but as we know, as soon as he found something else he's interested in, he would be outta there in a heartbeat.  Just depends if the MSU AD wants to put up with some crap along with the benefits.

No (extra) disrespect intended to those who post here about Jerry Kill...except for the following--

Please supply specific examples of the backstabbing, ego and crap you are referring to--and recall that in life and divorces, there are (at least) two sides to every story.

And if you think that yours truly is (reflexively) a defender of all things Jerry Kill...you'd be dead wrong.

(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”

Jerry Kill is a decent guy from everything I know about him. Is he a perfect human? Nope! (Unlike Brian Mullins! 😀 )

After he left the AD thing, a few on here really got their panties in a wad. I had no problem with it - I'm sure he'd rather be in (or close to) coaching than administration, like he said.

I don't think his health issues would allow him to be a head coach again - that's why he left Minnesota. I'd be surprised if he's a head coach again and seriously doubt he would even consider an FCS job, especially one at Missouri State with no winning football tradition.

2 very public instances of his pettiness. see his lawsuit against southern illinois university after he quit.  see also his public attacks on the football coach at minnesota while he was working here.

these are minor things but provide a glimpse in to what sits below.

do a info request on the number of grievances that were pending.

believe what you want.  barkeep has always been spot on with these things, too.  it's not a big secret that there were serious frictions on campus between him and management and board. give it some time and see if he is welcome back for a 4th time.

Craving a McBride Special!
