Seems to be the norm in the state of IL. ISU and uofi are the only two public universities that are maintaining or slightly growing......and uofi just has to lower entry standards to cannibalize students that would typically end up at another public U. The quality of education at uofi is clearly pretty good.....but you're still stuck in Champaign-Urbana .

e is doing fine
SIU would be fine if the school focused a little more on creating new taxpayers. Let's be perfectly honest here, the vast majority of kids in IL Colleges really ought to be going to JUCO to save money and let the education system operate more efficiently.

Over the weekend, I heard on the radio that SIUE is now offering instate tuition for all 50 states. How is that possible and who else in Illinois offers this?

It looks like it's SIU as a whole has eliminated it, unless I am misinterpreting the enrollment website? Take a look...

Morris, the board has already been purged. Probably in large part due to the fact that the last board was the board that hired Randy Dunn. Say what you want about Roger Tedrick, but the guy loves SIU as much as anyone. Having him back on the board is a positive.

At what point should he and the others start bearing some accountability? If we weren't robbing e blind on per pupil funding SIU would already be finished. It's time to put some sacred cows on the bbq is all I'm saying. The well intentioned individuals in an organization are typically the ones that doom it.

To me, it looks like SIU has eliminated in-state tuition and the new "Saluki Nation" tuition is the old out-of-state tuition.

You may be correct.

It's been a long time since I've paid tuition, do you know what the difference was between the current $321.25/credit hr (tuition) from the website, and the previous in/out of state breakdown?

Maybe we should lower our standards.

Promoting a dumbed down course selection (SJW and other mickey mouse crap) is what got us into this mess. Truth be told we've got to cut the fat not increase it.
More of this will get us turned around

and less of this (ironically a large portion of the students already in these)

Check out Illinois State University and SIU-E degree programs. They offer the programs Southern eliminated and additional courses (you) want eliminated, they are flourishing and Southerns' enrollment has been cut from 25000(+) to 12,000 (+/-). I guess the "fat" we cut went to Il. State and SIU-e.
You won.

You're not going to make me read off our offerings to show we focus on the least desirable degrees from a salary standpoint? The SJW stuff needs to go. Majors that lead to decent paying jobs need to be added here to supplement the good we already have. Cut the staff back down to the levels it was when we had 20k students to get the tuition down. After that cut staff more to be in line with enrollment. These things will turn the university around. It may be that cutting staff to be in line with enrollment levels (payroll dollars/student) we had in the 90s would be enough by itself to get tuitions way down and save the college. The days of running SIU like a big social program to employ public employees (read that democrat voters) has got to stop, the golden goose is taking her last breaths and will soon succumb.

SIU is trying some new approaches-
That was a novel idea trying to get kids in the area to register. I bet they paid some consultant a few million for that idea.
