The biggest stumbling block will be what SIU pays. Henderson made around $60,000 which is half of what the other Valley public schools pay and even $10,000 less than Eastern pays. That is $20,000 less than what SIUE pays Lyons. And I dont know if they have to money to go in another direction.

The current administration running athletics is not going to let a simple thing like money get in the way of what they really need.  If they find the right guy, they will find the money for it.  That is the feel I get from coach Kill.

I hope. But again, I don't think the gap between what SIU is paying and what its peers are can be understated though. Henderson was making $25,000 less a year than SIUs old volleyball coach Kari Thompson(old as in former, not as in age).

I think SIU, especially Kill realizes they'll have to increase the salary if they expect to move the program forward.  I'm confident Kill will find a quality candidate and compensation will likely align with other programs in The Valley.

Anything shaking on the search? Any insider info on candidates other than Finny?

Haven't heard a word on the search.  I'm interested to find out who the perspective candidates might be.

All I hear is the loud sound of crickets.  I hope a decision is made soon, at least before the CWS concludes.  Whoever it is better be capable and ready to shake the tree and rebuild.

New baseball coach --  Lance Rhodes.  BREAKING: @SIU_Baseball will hire @MizzouBaseball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Lance Rhodes as its new head coach, sources tell @d1baseball. Rhodes spent the last three seasons with Steve Bieser and the Tigers and is highly regarded in the region. #SIU #Salukis

Sounds like a good one. Was a great recruiter and pitching coach at SEMO before MO and is from Sikeston.

https://d1baseball.com/coaching-buzz/southern-illinois-hires-missouris-rhodes-as-head-coach/

Southern Illinois’s coaching search comes to an end after the school courted several intriguing candidates. Michigan’s Nick Schnabel was once considered a candidate before he removed his name from consideration, while the Salukis had very strong interest in Indiana State’s Brian Smiley, another talented coach, as well.

Well, it looks like we got a new coach.  From what I have heard it may not be officially announced the the university for few days, but it hit Twitter yesterday.  Heard some good things about Lance Rhodes so this is the opportunity to get a new attitude and culture for the baseball program.  Anxious to hear what both Kill and Rhodes will say at the announcement.  Good news for Saluki Baseball!

Seems like a good hire.  I love how most of the hires recently have been young guys as opposed to random retreads.  He was big in recruiting and developing MLB pitcher Joey Lucchesi at SEMO.  Would be cool to have MLB talent like that at SIU.

Happy to hear we have a new hire from the outside.  Hopefully Rhodes can bring a ton of energy and recruiting prowess to turn the program around.  Loved what the old regime instilled in the team as far as the classroom goes, but SIU has the potential to win at a high-level again and the old regime was never able to pull it off.

Welcome Coach Rhodes!  I look forward to seeing the Salukis in the NCAA Tournament again.

Lance Rhodes officially announced:  https://siusalukis.com/news/2019/6/20/lance-rhodes-announced-as-saluki-baseball-head-coach.aspx?path=baseball at $130,000 per year.  The Killer is spending the money he's raised.  My man crush on The Killer continues to grow.
