This baseball team seems to have psychologically given up for the season--10-5 Billikens going into the 6th--but maybe they can make a miraculous comeback
Its a joke how little school cares about this program. It clearly needs change but i think we all know theyll just trot out the same coach yet again
Extremely disappointing that this program isn't better given the upgraded facilities and warmer climate compared to a lot of the Missouri Valley and northern schools. SIU should be a lot better.
You're correct. SIU should be a lot better. Once again, lack of expectations is a killer and has driven this program into obscurity. I keep hoping this changes, not just for baseball, but for all of the athletic programs at SIU.
Yet if they sweep Bradley this week they actually can finish third--but you guys are right . they have been disappointing
I know we cant be a baseball powerhouse or anything, that's fine. But dammit we should at least win the conference and have some postseason ball occasionally
When Itchy Jones was here, SIU played top notch competition every season and were typically in the thick of things for a conference championship. SIU made many post season appearances back then. I know times have changed, but given the investment and donations for facility upgrades, for the university to completely ignore the lack of progress with this program is pathetic. The leadership at SIU needs to be flushed.
Lightning delay 3-2 Bradley in third
MVC Tournament @ Dallas, Texas
Schedule for Wednesday, May 23
Game 1: No. 4 Indiana State vs. No. 5 Southern Illinois, 9 AM (CT)
Game 2: No. 1 Missouri State vs. No. 8 Evansville, 12:30 PM (CT)
Game 3: No. 3 Bradley vs. No. 6 Illinois State, 4 PM (CT)
Game 4: No. 2 DBU vs. No. 7 Valparaiso, 7:30 PM (CT)
I'm not expecting this program to light the planet on fire. We probably won't ever be DBU, but look at the season Tennessee Tech is having. SIU having one of those every 10 years or so would be nice. It's nothing against Hendo, but this clearly seems like a Dale Lennon type of deal where enthusiasm for the program has stalled and a change needs to be made.
Hendo's been here eight years and this is his third above .500. Granted, he's played better competition than Hucky in basketball, so I'll credit him that. Even with that factored in, he's still had far better facilities and a weaker MVC than his predecessor had to contend with. If you want to make the argument that more investment is needed, that's fine, but a new coach should be at the forefront of that investment. I'm sure there are good people under Hartlieb at UI who would be interested in interviewing. Interview Flanagan too.

Remember, too, that Henderson essentially ran things for the last year or two for Cal while he was ill. Anyone know how much time is left on his current contract?
I am guessing that salary is the biggest hold-up in making a change. Ken's base salary is $61,812 and is reportedly the lowest in the league. For comparison, the Western Illinois coach makes about the same and has a much worse career record. The fact that Moccia, who was a baseball guy, never did a thing about the program does not bode well. Even the SIU volleyball coach makes $20k more than Henderson.
Congrats to Dylan Givens on earning MVC Pitcher of the Week! Five shutout innings in Saturday's win vs. Bradley, limiting the Braves to an .059 average. #Salukis pic.twitter.com/31nWRzzosr
