Glad we squeezed out a 12-inning win. UE is one of the worst teams in DI baseball. One loss sends us home. Three straight wins sends us to the NCAA tournament.
Bradley is the only school in the league that has gone longer than SIU without an MVC baseball tournament title.
Down 11-8 in the bottom of the 7th.
Salukis score 4 in the top of the 9th to stay alive. Going to the bottom of the 9th...Salukis lead 12-11.
12-12 going to the 10th.
Two-run walkoff HR for ISU off of Netemeyer. 14-12 Trees.
Season over.
Clean house. Now. What an absolute joke.

I'm not expecting this program to light the planet on fire. We probably won't ever be DBU, but look at the season Tennessee Tech is having. SIU having one of those every 10 years or so would be nice. It's nothing against Hendo, but this clearly seems like a Dale Lennon type of deal where enthusiasm for the program has stalled and a change needs to be made.
Hendo's been here eight years and this is his third above .500. Granted, he's played better competition than Hucky in basketball, so I'll credit him that. Even with that factored in, he's still had far better facilities and a weaker MVC than his predecessor had to contend with. If you want to make the argument that more investment is needed, that's fine, but a new coach should be at the forefront of that investment. I'm sure there are good people under Hartlieb at UI who would be interested in interviewing. Interview Flanagan too.
Correction, only two years above .500. Silly me for thinking that we may finish above .500 for the third time in eight years under Henderson. 😑
Pitching has been a disaster. Mid-week starts have been brutal the past few seasons.
Same results every damn year. Same comments at the end of every year. Sub .500 regular season. Bounced early at the MVC and no NCAA bid. And I will say the same thing now as I do every year. Something has got to change! If you and I do not produce results in our job, our employment is on the line. No so with the baseball program. And the shame is that lack of money is the problem. So tired of the excuses and continually hearing we are on the right track and have a good foundation for the future. BS.... The time is now.
Sam Riggleman got fired for results that weren’t too much worse than what Henderson has done.
Riggleman got fired in the middle of his fifth year. Henderson has had the rest of that year and eight years of being the head coach after the passing of Callahan.
Henderson is “unbelievably proud” of a team that went 28-30. 😩
I get he’s trying to talk up the players, but the optics of that are incredibly bad.
C'mon SIU we can and should do better than this! Time to expect more from this university, this administration, and the various organizations that represent this once proud university.
GO DAWGS!!

Riggs was doing some "faith healing" on injured athletes, though. His termination wasn't exactly related to his managerial skills and results.
