SIU is 6 outs away from an outright title. Evansville trailing 8-1 in the 8th
Went to the double header today. This team plays D, pitches and hits. no way they can keep them out of the tourney unless they lose 2 and don't win any.
It's over Valpo 8 to 4 over the Aces out right champs GO DAWGS
Pretty nice to have off until Wednesday with the doubleheader today. Gonna have a fresh team in Springfield.
Proud of these Dawgs! Way to make SIU relevant again in college baseball. It's been far too long. The administration stuck it's head in the sand.....and other places, for far too long with this program. It's proven that coaches can come to SIU and win at a high level in baseball. The administration needs to continue to set them up for sustained success.
Rhodes appears to have been a homerun hire by Kill. I was curious where he stood among the Valley coaches in terms of salary, so did a quick search.
I couldn't find a number for Carroll at Evansville, Dominguez at Bradley, or Schmack at Valpo.
Somewhat surprisingly, Rhodes appears to be paid pretty well.
Heefner at DBU is the obvious outlier. Guttin at MSU was the shocker for me. I figured he'd rank right below Heefner.
Still, you have to wonder if SIU will work in a raise for Rhodes after the last two seasons.
School | Coach | Salary | Year |
Dallas Baptist | Heefner | $366,365 | 2021 |
Southern Illinois | Rhodes | $130,000 | 2019 |
Illinois State | Holm | $126,000 | 2018 |
Indiana State | Hannahs | $117,058 | 2019 |
Missouri State | Guttin | $113,419 | 2018 |
More than a raise it might be in a fight for retention but baseball coaches don't move like basketball and football

They will actually play the highest seed left, so if Valpo upsets ISU they get them (unlikely).

That's what I initially thought, too, from looking at the tournament website, but the bracket makes it look like it's definitely the winner of MSU and IlSU. What am I missing?

I think maybe it’s easier to just put winner of game in there (putting higher seed would make sense but wouldn’t follow the rest of the bracket). Probably just some laziness from whoever put it together.
Lance Rhodes has done a great job. Congrats to the coaches and players on making SIU baseball relevant again.
Now let's win the tournament and not give the NCAA a chance to screw us - we deserve to be in!
Dawgs at #73 in the latest RPI rankings.
I assume there's no chance at an at-large if we were to lose the Valley tourney, despite winning at least 40 games and the conference championship.
I wonder if the schedule for next year is set yet. SIU may need to beef up their non-conference portion. It's clear that winning in conference isn't enough.
