Bloemer gets through 7.2 but gives up a 2 run homer. Still a great effort.
SIU/Missouri State tomorrow at Noon. Have to beat the Bears twice
This team had an off day in game 1 but I believe they are on a mission and will win 2 and the title
So ironic that we end up exactly where we started, playing Missouri State, but now have to win twice. How are we doing on pitching depth for tomorrow?

Not good…but we didn’t have much on day 1 either. Tomorrow will be about the offense, have to score runs if we are going to win the tourney and hope we have a few guys who can keep us in it. If we have any shot at an at large, we need to win at least one and maybe we will squeak in, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Who do we think we'll start today? Does Rhodes go with Steidl, even though he struggled against MSU in the first game?
Edit: I meant to say Lewis, not Steidl, and looking back at the box score, I suppose Lewis didn't struggle too bad. My bad.
What a great last two days of the tourney. It looks our RPI currently stands at 68 after the two wins yesterday. I wouldn't think beating MSU today will move us up too much.
That probably means, if we lose today, DBU will get an at-large over us, which is a freaking crime. No reasonable person can look at the resumes of SIU and DBU and come to the conclusion that DBU is more deserving of a tourney bid than SIU.
If this plays out, then looking forward, I hope the AD and Rhodes begin to schedule much more competitively in the non-conference. Win a few of those games and finish above .500 in conference seems to be the recipe for success.
Here it is. Rhodes is going with Farmer, despite him just going on Friday against Indiana State.

Here is the thing about scheduling, even if you look at the big boys, there is quite a bit of regional scheduling going on for OOC for budgetary reasons (including DBU). Now luck would have it for DBU that a lot of the regional teams near them are pretty damn good this year…unfortunately for us, that was not the case (outside of SEMO who ended up with a pretty decent RPI). Now that’s not to say can’t do better with a couple of series, but we are limited to some degree.
Dawgs take game 1. Huge production by Farmer and Chapman.
One more win. Let's go!
I'm curious what Rhodes does with the pitching.
McDaniel should be pretty well rested. Do we start with Lewis, put him on a short leash, and go the rest of the way with McDaniel?
Impressive to beat Dallas Baptist, Evansville, and Missouri State 3 in a row. Not the path you wanted but one game away from finishing it.
Every move Rhodes has made this tourney has worked to perfection. Let's hope that holds for 9 more innings.
Weber and Rog with back to back RBI hits. 2-0 in the 1st and still 0 outs
I think it's VERY clear SIU is the best team in the MVC this year. Our RPI has actually jumped ahead of SEMO (we're 2 - 0 against SEMO) - now 63. Dallas Baptist, who was clearly not the best or even 2nd best team in the MVC (1 - 3 against SIU, 2 - 2 Eville, 0-2-1 Ind St), is still at an RPI of 22. They played a very tough schedule, lost to most of those teams, but they had a few wins against them. They swept S. Miss who has turned out to be a good team, and they are getting a ton of mileage from that. The fact that they have not done great in the MVC but still have a high RPI demonstrates how defective the RPI is.
The other ranking I'm seeing is ELO. In that ranking, we are 47, Dallas Baptist is 60, Evansville is 92, Mo St is 101, SEMO is 102. I have no idea if the NCAA uses the any of these rankings. By the eye test, not sure how you can keep SIU out.
Let's win it all so we don't have to sweat an NCAA screw job!
SIU 2 Badguys 0 2nd inning!!!!
