Dawgs win 1st game of the season 14 - 7 on 13 hits.
Games 2 tomorrow on ESPN+ at 2 PM.
Up 4-0 in the 4th in Game 2.
I have no idea how good Northwestern State, but nice start to the season so far.
I’m looking forward to following them this season.
I looked into it. Northwestern State was ranked #8 of 9 in the Southland in the pre-season ranking.
NWS takes the lead 7 -5 but SIU comes back with 6runs in the 7th to
win 14 - 9. NWS walked a bunch of batters, just like yesterday, which was a big help to the Dawgs. We had 14 hits to their 10.
Thought our starting pitcher Holguin looked really good. We have some hitters too.
Game 3 tomorrow at 12 on ESPN+.
I looked into it. Northwestern State was ranked #8 of 9 in the Southland in the pre-season ranking.
I think Appalachian State was our only non-conference team that finished .500 or above last year and they were like 30-30. It's a brutal non-con unless a few of these teams surprise.
Our first two starting pitchers have looked good, outside of that, it appears we are going to struggle in that area again this year.
Good weekend for Saluki athletics.
Baseball wins 14-11 at UT Martin to start 4-0. Pitching seems to be iffy again so far
Lance Rhodes with Luke Martin on the 4-0 start:

Looks like we better have a slugfest as the pitching is struggling. Down 6-2 after four complete innings.
9-8 loss, sure looks like pitching is gonna be an issue again this year
Down 6-9 in the 8th of game 2 after giving up a 6-2 lead.
Think we're seeing why they're playing such a soft non-con. Back to back 9-8 losses to a below-average Central Arkansas team.
