Our pitching has given up a ton of runs - not good.
SIU swept by Central Arkansas, this time losing 13-12
I think it's officially time to be concerned about pitching. I wanted to give them the benefit of a couple series to get their feet wet, but 7 games in we've given up 7, 9, 11, 11, 9, 9, 13. It's a miracle we've won 4 games. You can't expect an offense to put up that many runs night in and night out. This is the second year under Rhodes and Tribby (with Jamieson gone) that it appears we've got a poor pitching staff.
It's a long season, but they certainly need to get things figured out in a hurry.
That series was a giant collective "yikes". Central Arkansas was 23-31 last year and unless they are improving a lot, not getting at least one road win off them isn't great.

I get your sentiment BUT...the offense scored 8, 8 and 12 over the weekend. With any halfway decent pitching you should win a couple of those if not all 3. It's crazy how bad the pitching is though...they had an entire off-season to try and sure it up and it looks somehow worse than last year. In the end, you need pitching and offense to win so yeah YIKES.
Starters for SIU this season include...
• A transfer from USC Upstate who wasn't good there.
• An almost 24 year old 5th year senior
• A 22 year old JUCO signee who had an ERA of close to 5 as a 21 year old JUCO sophomore.
• A 4th year Junior who had an ERA of over 6 as a JUCO sophomore last summer.
Got a 10-8 win today…mid-week games are when you typically expect these kind of scores so I guess you take it.
First home game - good crowd on the hill. Lots of happy canine baseball fans.
Caught the last 5 innings. Our pitching was not good. Gave up 15 hits. Could be a long season in the MVC.
Dawgs took the opener 7-5 against App State last night at the Itch.
Game 2 at 2pm today.
Great weather for a game!
Dawgs are 11-5 on the season and riding a 5-game win streak.
Series at home against Jacksonville State begins Friday.
Pitching seems to be improving
Caught a bit of the game tonight against Jax State of Alabama. Too cold for baseball.
Dawgs tied it in the bottom of the 9th and Heston Gray hit a walkoff HR in the bottom of the 10th to win it. (his 2nd of the game)
Game 2 tomorrow at 2PM. Should be warmer.
Dawgs run rule Jax State 15 - 1 on 1-hit pitching by Foeller (a HR) and 16 hits by the offense.
Take 2 of 3.
Baseball and softball looking good. I don’t think baseball’s competition has been very good, but still good to see. I’ll start following more closely as the conference season gets here.
