NJ Benson tweeted a pic of his visit to Murray this weekend, hanging with Ja Morant. That’s a heck of a recruiting tool for Murray.
Would be tough to lose him to the Racers.
Sadly, it seems like last year has really hurt our recruiting for this upcoming season. They turned a good 2019-20 into momentum for the 2021 class but I'm a little nervous with this upcoming class. The pressure needs to be on to compete this year.
The good news is, even if this recruiting period doesn't go well, they'd have some open slots for potential impact transfers in the offseason and given how crazy and game-changing the transfer market has become, maybe you find the missing pieces to a Valley winning team there to pair with Senior Domask and Jones.

How many Sweet Sixteen banners did he see hanging in Murray? Zero.

It would be different if Ja Morant was a player now and for the future don't believe it would have much impact now but I could be wrong I believe it's more the present and the future as compared to the past

Ja Morant is a young, extremely popular NBA star. I can’t think of a better recruiting ambassador to impress an 18 yo hooper.
Not saying it makes Benson a lock for Murray, but I certainly wouldn’t dismiss its significance.
Ambassador yes future teammate where it should matter not so much

Love the attitude! But I don't think these kids care about events that happened probably before they even started watching basketball lol
By the way, what is the definition of a “booster” in regard to the recruitment of a player? I think Morant checks that box.

Good point. How is it not a violation?

Even though Murray struggled last year and we beat them, they're a national brand for mid-majors because of their success recently and the fact that they've sent guys like Morant and Cameron Payne to the NBA. I like the direction SIU is headed but right now they're selling guys on potential because they're a 28-30 team right now the last 2 seasons. That's why this might be the most important year of the Mullins era in Southern Illinois. They've got to compete and win.

Might be interesting to see if his post stays up on Twitter. I would check but I am proud to say I got the boot from their site.

I've said similar thoughts. Some have posted that it takes 4 or 5 years to build a program up. In today's game, with transfers, etc, I feel, and have said, that 4-5 years is too long. The uniqueness of last year changes that somewhat, but I maintain that this is a critical year for this team and coaching staff. They need to WIN. That being said, I am confident they will. I am not saying they will win the valley, but I do think they will beat several of the teams at the top of the league, including if/when they're ranked. Very excited about the upcoming season.
this team was always being built for this year. Injuries and Covid pushed it back a year. I expect a top 5 finish this year. Anything better than that is a bonus. Next year is where the expectations are far far higher. That being said Bryan is still getting an A+ from me thus far.
Yeah, last year was obviously strange and tough to gauge across the board with Covid, but injuries to Muila, Domask and later, Lance Jones, was way too much to overcome. Remove any teams arguably three most important players, and you have the perfect recipe for a tough season. That said, winning this year, regaining momentum, and getting fans back into the Banterra Center is vitally important. Its time to make a move.
