I don't have any issue with losing local recruits so long as we're getting the best players; it's all projections until they actually get on the court. What recruiting services should do is do historical grading to measure how their rankings held up, but they likely don't since they know the results won't be in their favor.
@salukiworld we have an offer out to Robbie Avila and Braxton Stacker also I believe.
Recruiting is very subjective, getting players for your system if they workout if they stay so I am not concerned at this point who gets who because once you get a player he still has to develop and earn his spot not to mention how all these young men bond and become a team and there is always a chance you get someone you didn't expect that makes everyone happy

Agree. You hate to lose out on a player you heavily recruited, but it happens all the time and you have to move on. Ultimately, it's not who you lose, but who comes and plays. BM and company will get the guys they need and hopefully they develop and contribute.
March on triumphantly!

Agree. The Valley schools are going to compete for the same caliber players so its not surprising we lose to a rival once in a while but it still has a sting to it.
I'm not gonna freak out over this despite the fact that recruiting seems to have taken a bit of a dive. Last year seems to have killed a bit of the buzz the program was generating. The current team has a lot of depth and guys that *should* be here for at least 2 more years. And if they don't fill the open scholarships, it's not the worst thing in the world given the craziness of the transfer market.
But winning is really important this season. Another .500 overall season or anywhere around it like the last two seasons and you've really gotta start questioning where the program is headed, especially given the non-conference schedule this year.
Anyways, the team has 3 offers out there for 2022 that I know of in Sami Pissis, a 6'3 guard from France; Tayshawn Comer, a 6'0 guard from Indianapolis; and Cade Hornecker, a 7'0 center from Amarillo, Texas. Hornecker would make this one feel a hell of a lot better.
One thing we all do know is that Mullins is incredibly intelligent. He knows that this program needs to win and that even if they are significantly better than last season, the Valley is going to be so uber competitive that they needed a softer non-conference schedule to get some much needed W's. Loyola, Drake, MSU and Northern Iowa are all going to be top 40, if not top 30 good. So yes, winning IS important this year and that is why I believe, at least in part, that is why the non-conference schedule was made up of some very winnable games.

Not to get this thread further off track, but I feel like this is taking us back into the annoying Hinson-era arguments. Win-loss records are deceptive and don’t mean much on their own. Beating Maryville and Alcorn State do nothing to move the needle.
Southern needs to contend for MVC titles and NCAA bids, and I strongly disagree that a soft noncon schedule does anything to make that happen. For the record, the road/neutral part of the noncon slate is fine. It’s the home part that is woeful.
The road part isn't good either. The best team Arsenal plays on the road, San Franciso, finished 8th in the WCC last season.

Well…so much for “hanging with Ja Morant” eh?

Sorry for stepping on your comment to @salukiworld, but not sure there is any evidence that Avila holds an offer from the Dawgs. Robbie Avila made and unofficial visit to Carbondale in June 15, 2021, but I cannot find any reference to him receiving an offer from the Salukis.

Forgot about Avila, was just going by the chart on VerbalCommits.

I think we also have an offer out for Mascoutah High School's Justin King for 2022. I remember him visiting a few times.

I realize Dana Ford grew up in the shadow of Saluki great Chico Vaughn, but this young man has chosen to be a part of the Ford culture at Missouri State and with Benson making that decision, I'm not so sure he would have fit the culture that Coach Mullins is cultivating at SIU.
Good luck to Mr. Benson except when he is competing against the Saluki's!

What is the Ford culture? and why might this kid not fit with what Mullins is doing at SIU?
