Avila's had interest from some big mid-majors including Richmond and had an offer from DePaul. I think he'd fit in well.
I think so too. He has the intangibles the staff is looking for: coachable, high character guy, winner (Meanstreets AAU) and solid family background.
🤔 SIU got a big kid.
Robbie Avila has set his commitment date for October 23rd.

With the commitment of Hornecker, I would be surprised if Avila picked SIU.
Does Avila have the skill set to be a giant small forward?
I think he has the skill set but in "slo-mo". He lacks the athleticism folks on this board think our roster should upgrade including myself.
I agree with this. He looks way too slow. I would be very surprised if our offer was still on the table. We have 1 ride left and need a PG.

I agree with your statement. SIU has 100% moved on. This kid is by all accounts a good kid but SIU has gotten the big they wanted.
SIU fans for the last decade: WE NEED BIGS! SIU fans Fall of 21: NO MORE BIGS! Speaks volumes about the current coaching staff. Watching Cade Hornecker shoot 3s and midrange jump shots reminds me of a taller Kyle Korver. Excuse me for the sacrilege!

Maybe more of a Dirk Nowitzki type game, if he puts on weight and adds strength. Corver was 6'7" and had unlimited range. He was a 2 guard in the nba and played the 3 at Creighton. Also, maybe Hornecker's game could be a little like Steve Stipanovich, but with a better 3 point shot. I think Hornecker's mid range game may end up being his greatest asset. I'm not saying he is anywhere close to a talent of Nowitzki or Stipanovich, just contemplating where his strengths may be.

Spot on comparison. Dirk Nowitzki is exactly who his play style reminds me of. Now, if Cade ends up being just half as good as Dirk during his Saluki tenure, we'll all be very, very happy.

I will miss the potential of having a super-sized McLovin on the team. (Look it up, kids)

Seems like we weren't in on Avila at the end, probably changed with Hoernecker committing. I think Avila will be an interesting player to follow.

😱
I sincerely wish Robbie nothing but the best, except when he plays against SIU.
There is a great picture of Cade Hornecker in the midst of the Saluki bb team at the ND football game on Cade's Instagram page. He looks to be having a great time, no wonder he committed! Appears he is already part of the family. First you build the culture.

I knew the SIU Coaching Staff beat out some good teams, but I did not realize the full extent of those teams.
