Please no mode D2 transfers

I want good players, don't care where they come from. You wouldn't take Ryan Hawkins on our team? Gaige Prim?

There are D 2 players that can contribute to teams at the D 1 level.   Stephen Verplancken Jr. has done very well for SIU

"can contribute" is not good enough at this point. We already have plenty of can contribute guys. We need a couple of impact players.

Everyone agrees with that. And you can find an impact player anywhere. Some guys develop late or are under the radar or whatever. I think people are just saying they don't care where we find our impact guys

I don't care where they come from either. It's really important to get these one or possibly two scholarships right.

Couldn't agree more. This is the most important off-season of Bryan's tenure

As been noted, there is a big talent gap between SIU and the mid-majors in the tournament. As Brendon Mullins stated, you have to look at the team as a business, always looking to get better. Murray State, San Francisco, UAB are current business model of what our talent level needs to look like. Much recruiting to be done this Spring.

@siudawgs

I totally agree with you.  People use the same argument with regards to Redshirts.  They'll bring up Darren Brooks, failing to note that he was the exception and that most redshirts (who weren't ready or good enough to play) do not turn out to be all conference.  Can a D2 player turn out to be great?  Sure, but again that is the exception vs the rule.  Our most recent D2 players have been good culture guys but certainly not difference makers.  Due to the teams current roster, we cannot afford more role players.

Florida southwest juco freshman from West Memphis High School in Arkansas where he was a McDonald's All-American nominee and a two time All-State award winner, averaging 14 points and 8 assists per game over his high school career.  As a junior he led his team to a 29-4 record and a State Championship averaging 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists per game while shooting 58% from the field.

Same JUCO as Terry Roberts and DJ Wilkins.

Mitchell's numbers are actually a lot better than Terry Roberts' were when he was there as a Freshman

Terry Roberts averaged 6.1 PPG, 2.9 APG, 2.8 RPG as a Freshman there.  (Roberts then jumped up to 15 PPG, 5.7 APG, 4.8 RPG in his Sophomore year)

Mitchell is averaging 7.7 PPG, 5.6 APG, 3.0 RPG as a Freshman

Some of SIU's better players the last 15 years or so have come from JUCO.  Mamadou Seck, Jeff Early, Mike Rodriguez.  Terry Roberts was just a MVC first teamer his first year out of JUCO.  Gaige Prim has been one of the better players in the Valley out of JUCO.

Add Kavion Pippen too I believe

Neither Jeff Early nor Mike Rodriguez were anything special. Early stood out because he was on two really bad SIU teams. Rodriguez was a decent scorer but a pretty horrid PG when came to every other part of the position.

Seck was nice tho.

Really like this Jordan Mitchell kid from what I've been able to find on him. Would be a big time get for the program. Anyone have any clue what kind of shot we realistically have at landing him?

4 assists and 1.5 steals a game isn't horrid but go ahead

Jordan Mitchell would be a terrific fail-safe if SIU doesn't win the Brian Moore sweepstakes.

I'm holding out hope for Moore though. IMO, he would be the perfect fit for this roster and the kind of impact transfer SIU needs to take a leap forward next year.

We are so overdue to have one of these fall our way.

@bleedfknmaroon25 Is this a 2022 recruit? Still think we need more scoring than he will give us but IF we have more than 1 signee this spring he may fill the PG spot we need.

So this Moore kid is still a realistic recruit? Would be nice to land him but sounds like this other PG would be a good option as well.

We don't necessarily need more scoring from a PG. We need a great PG to facilitate more scoring. I think Foster Wonders will help with the scoring and we definitely need a forward who can create his own shot and score. If we get those things we should be in much better shape.

This is exactly how I feel.
