Damarco Minor scored 29 to help South Suburban to the NJCAA DII national title tonight. He was tournament MVP.
Neither Jeff Early nor Mike Rodriguez were anything special. Early stood out because he was on two really bad SIU teams. Rodriguez was a decent scorer but a pretty horrid PG when came to every other part of the position.
Seck was nice tho.
Jeff Early was a very good player his senior year. In an MVC with guys like McDermott, Cleanthony Early, Colt Ryan, Jake Odom, etc, Jeff Early was 12th in scoring (13 ppg), 4th in rebounding (7.2 per game), 4th in offensive rebounding (2.5 per game), and 5th in steals (1.7 per game). He had 51 steals, which would have been 2nd in the MVC this year behind Lance Jones.
Best rebounder in the country under 6'3".

Some of that was Early was on bad teams but I'd gladly take a Jeff Early on the 2022-23 Salukis.

Nonsense! He's not rebounding or scoring against his own "bad" team! The MVC had Creighton and Doug McDermott and Wichita State (who we beat at their place) - a tougher league than currently.
Early played 30 minutes a game - about 5 minutes less a game than Domask. That team included Anthony Beane (a freshman who also played 30 per game), Desmar Jackson, Bola Olaniyan, and Dantiel Daniels. Early was pretty darn good that senior year! If he was on the current Salukis, he'd probably be playing more than 30 minutes and clearing the boards just the same.

Mike Saunders Jr in portal. I wonder if we’re still interested or in potential running. Coaches still follow him.
Over at www.evanmiya.com, they've added the transfer portal and projections for everyone in the portal for next year. Could be an interesting tool to use. Right now Drake has the #30 ranked transfer:

Thanks for sharing, this is very cool. I see a lot of names of players we should absolutely be contacting on here
SIU either needs to pull a recruiting coup like Dayton did with Daron Holmes or find a lightly recruited diamond in the rough like Presbyterian did with Rayshon Harrison(which isn't that common anymore). Preferably they can do both.

Penn would be my absolute#1 target if I were on the staff. He is not only the true PG we have been looking for, but also can score in so many ways. He can shoot, as evidenced by his 49.5% FG percentage, and he can drive with the ability to score with either hand. Check out some of his highlights (granted they are just that). Plus he is experienced. And the kicker is, Bellarmine is one of the most unique offenses in basketball where they pass more, and dribble less, than any other team in college basketball. If we were only able to get 1 player this year, he would definitely be at the top of my list. Now if, somehow, we were able to pair him up with an athletic taller wing, then I would honestly think this team has a chance to compete for the MVC crown. Obviously that's putting the cart before the horse but a guy can hope, can't he?

6'1 Senior from Saint Paul, MN. Averaged 8.8 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 3.6 APG at Wofford.
Lander would be a great get. 3 years of eligibility remaining, he was young for his class because he opted to graduate early. Showed flashes of potential.
No thanks on Larson or Penn. Have to stop relying on mediocre grad transfers who you get one year out of and actually try to build. Pass on JUCOs unless they are just can't miss.

Today I learned that those stats are apparently mediocre. Even though he'd lead SIU in PPG and assists and finish second in rebounding
