Evan Miya has Perry as the 442nd ranked transfer in the portal.  He projects out much better on the offensive end (5.8 OBPR) than the defensive end (-7.1 DBPR) for 2023.  He was 469th in the country in assist rate last year and 462nd in the country in turnover rate so he fits what we're looking for.

For reference can you post where Dalton Banks lands in the offensive and defensive categories?

Banks was -1.6 OBPR, -4.5 DBPR, -6.1 total BPR last year.  If Banks were in the portal with his 2022 stats as opposed to his 2023 projections (which I don't think is on the site), he'd be the 669th ranked player in the portal

Lance Jones was 11.2 OBPR, 6.3 DBPR, 17.5 total BPR.  Jones would be the 83rd ranked player in the portal with last year's numbers.

Thanks for sharing! Perry is an upgrade, but not sure how much he'll move the needle for us

Yeah if they get Perry, I'd like to them hit a triple or homer on the other transfer.  Perry would be a one year rental but seems like a decent option.  His Lafayette bio says he was the team captain and finished 16th in Lafayette history in 3 point field goals with 144.

I'm pretty happy it looks like Banks is hanging around.  Think he's a great option off the bench, especially if he improves his offensive game.  SIU looked better when he was on the court running the offense last year compared to what they had early in the season.

Most everything I've read on Perry says he is a plus on ball defender. We strictly play man to man defense so that translates well. Lafayette's website even states he was their best on ball defender. He was team captain, can score and distribute. He would almost assuredly step in and start at PG. He would be an impact player for us at PG, IMO. I think he would be a good get.

Why do people assume that's not us?  James seems like an upgrade over Filewich to me.  Was highly recruited out of high school (some say he was a 4 star, I see 3 stars everywhere).  Yeah Southern Indiana is in the mix but so is Chattanooga, the team that nearly beat Illinois in the NCAA Tournament a few weeks ago.

Im not saying its not us, just saying ive seen guys say southern illinois before and it wasn't us, it was the E.

pity the poor kid who goes into the portal and his best option is the E.

Hopefully we get a commitment soon so instead of speculating we have a player to get excited about.  Predicting we get a commitment this week.  April 13th starts the spring signing period although not certain transfers fall into the signing period.

He played 46 minutes in 11 games for Iona. How does he seem like an upgrade?

He was essentially a Freshman last year and Iona was a good team last year, they rolled through the MAAC.  Was a 3/4 star recruit out of high school and was highly recruited by Iowa and originally committed to Wake Forest before a coaching change.

I'm not saying this is a big get, I'm more interested in Skogman from Buffalo if they're going to take a big man if he's attainable but he's an upgrade over Filewich.

We all know how recruiting works everyone is excited when we get someone who had positive reviews also think he could be the 2nd coming of whoever but until said player gets here transitions to the next level you just never know what you get then there is the exception where a lightly recruited player blossoms into an all time great so you just never know who shows up on the court on game day but it sure is fun to speculate is it not

Chattanooga just landed a quality big man. So, IF it is down to those three schools, and IF James is interested in immediate playing time after sitting a bunch at Iona, you'd think SIU should be sitting pretty assuming USI is the competition (and assuming Southern truly wants him).

If you're going to shoot only 20% from 3pt range (that is not a misprint) you need to have more than 2.3 apg in my opinion.   He is such a good kid and definitely fits in the desired culture that this staff is building, but we need players that can make a difference on the floor as well as the classroom.  I'm hopeful that he can find his shot, but since he struggled with that in high school it would suggest he isn't going to suddenly find it.  That being said, if we can get a STUD PG that can lead the team and score, I would be very happy to have him and his leadership on the team.

EXACTLY !!!!!!!   Many were super excited about Ben Harvey (especially myself) and even health aside, that didn't work out.   Many were excited about JD Muila (especially myself) and while he was arguably the best starting option at the 5 last year, I think a majority of us would say we had hoped for much more.  A vast majority of us were super excited about Wonders and he wasn't ready to play in year 1.  The reality is, you just never know.  That being said, while there will always be exceptions to the rule, I would say it's more fair to get excited about a highly sought after recruit than hoping to get lucky with a diamond in the rough.

@insaluki until we start winning at a consistently high level  we will have to look for diamonds or get lucky to get a high level recruit and if he succeeds he will be in the portal for greener pastures

Johnson is a 4 star transfer on EvanMiya.  The #149 ranked player in the portal.  Projected 5.1 OBPR, 7.1 DBPR, 12.2 BPR for 2023.  I like this.

I only have his stats at this point (haven't watched any video - YET) but love that his numbers improved.  He was a poor 3pt shooter but has improved every year, shooting at a 34% clip this past year.  That says a lot to me.  He almost averaged 5 assists per game and he seems to be very tough on D.  He also grabs some rebounds for a guy of his size.  Initially I would say I am intrigued and happy about the signing.  Get him in early and let him acclimate to our style and culture !!!
