Ebube will be starting at the 5 next year with Muila spelling him.  Maybe not to start the season, but soon enough.  He's going to be a stud.  Hornecker might redshirt (or not).

Foster Wonders may end up starting at the 3 eventually.  He's going to be a prolific scorer.  D'Amico is going to be a year better, too.

Sure, it would be nice to sign another transfer or two.  And I think we will.  But it's not like the cupboard is bare.

Rockin, absolutely love the enthusiasm but I'd like you to expound on your reasoning.   Ebube as a redshirt Fr who has never played a single collegiate game.  He was not known for his post offensive game in high school.  Wonders has potential for sure (I was riding the Foster band wagon preseason) but he needs to prove that he can defend and acclimate to the speed of the college game as he was not ready last year.

D'Amico is a baller and does so many things well, I'm excited to see what he can do next year especially considering how quickly he learned in his first year.

Here's hoping that you are dead on because if you are, especially about Ebube, then this team's floor and ceiling just got a little higher.

My God.  We sign a true PG who averaged almost 8 PPG and 5 APG on a team that was BETTER THAN US and people are still complaining??

Nailed it. Not to mention his godfather is Johnny Dawkins. 😉

Not sure what his Godfather has to do with his playing ability but fun fact nonetheless. George Mason was marginally better with a 14-16 (7-9) record…yeehaw. I’m not particularly concerned where he came from, sure it can help inform on talent level, but if he can play, he can play.

I’m not so much complaining, more disappointed because I thought there were some better PGs available we were recruiting and didn’t get. Who knows, maybe this was their top target. I think he can certainly help this team and as I mentioned before, I love is Asst to TO numbers and defense. I also think he will help elevate the other players around him in scoring , but we have a lot of points to make up and this, for me, doesn’t close that gap as much as I would like. It really makes the last signing (assuming another scholarship doesn’t open) critical…we have to get someone else who can score. Ideally a stretch 4 with some athleticism, but at this point I don’t care if it’s a 3, 4, or 5.

Having said all that, I hope this kid comes in with a chip and makes me eat crow and takes this team to the next level.

re: Johnny Dawkins: it was an attempt to inject a bit of levity into the conversation. In your defense, my wife tells me I’m not funny. 😊

I'm not psychologist, although I did stay at a Holiday Express once, but if someone posts negative comments about a specific player in a majority of their posts, I would GUESS that they hate that player or person.  I also think that particular person is likely a troll.  For anyone who doubts this, a certain poster was hating on Muila before he played a single minute so their use of hindsight, even incorrectly used, doesn't cover up the fact that they have an issue with this person.  And it has nearly gotten him kicked off this board and I promise to celebrate with a nice cold beer if and when it finally happens.  Critique and discussion is what makes this board great but the constant negativity and hate for a certain player(s) is not.

What’s your favorite beer?

I have been nowhere near as negative as you have been effusively positive.

Either way I don't have an issue with Muila as a person. I just dont think he should be a starter in the MVC and think the more minutes he gets the team will inversely be that much worse.

I am fine with him as a 5 to 7 minute a game backup.

Nice. Now, let’s try to curb that positivity, there’s no place for that on this board!!!

I agree with my friend.  I think Ebube has some post moves and JD will be good enough off the bench to give him a blow.  I would guess Hornecker at 220 lbs is going to need a year in the weight room?  I like D'Amico and think he gets better, despite his weird looking shot (it goes in), with more time and when he gets more comfortable taking his shot and not deferring.   I also think Wonders could be instant offense off the bench if he doesn't start
I sure would like a tall guard/forward that could fill it up

@insaluki Ebube can score.  It's not like he played in the river to river.  He won the MVP award as a sophomore in the Carbondale Holiday Tournament.  Had 27 and 15 vs Collins Academy in the Championship game.  He scores as much as they need him and is a MAN on the glass.  I wish they had played him last year but I think Mullins didn't want him playing against 22/23 year old players.  Or Gage Prim who is 35

He's a pretty good rebounder - definitely not slow-footed, and he can block a shot or two. Doesn't help much offensively and FT shooting is a real liability in a close game. Also a little small for a center, but we've had smallish guys in the past (Jerry Jones, Ashraf Amaya) who were beasts at that size. Not sure how much that knee injury affected him. Unless he improves greatly on offense, I agree he's not a starter.

Sure hope Ebube is good enough to start and score, and we can get some good minutes from Hornecker as a freshman. Having a scoring threat at center opens up the whole floor offensively.

Has Trey James, the transfer from Iona set up a visit at SIU?  I just saw that he has visits with Holy Cross and Southern Indiana set up.

I personally got spoiled watching the NCAA tourney. Seeing inside players making their bunnies and also going outside occasionally and not just to set a pick. And watching guards and small forwards taking a 10 footer or use a floater to get over those same bigs...Why didn't we think of that?

I’m feeling you man, you should see the rack on my next door neighbor’s wife. It’s painful.

@insaluki I'm basing my opinion on Ebube on some of the High School games I saw him play via internet feed.  The announcers all talked about what advanced offensive post moves he had.  Not sure where you're hearing the opposite.
