Conference DPOY?  Very interesting!

They desperately need someone that can score. Wonders will help and Johnson will make everyone better but Coupet’s scoring hasn’t really been replaced yet and they weren’t a great offensive team with him.

If we are still recruiting guards, id have to believe we have two spots to fill and that likely means Harvey isn't playing next year.

That is IF we are still recruiting guards.

I was honestly meh on Payton.  Who knows if he was Option A but the fact that he couldn't get on the court at Pittsburgh was concerning.  That being said, I would have been bought in if we got him because the athleticism is something this team lacks.  I still think there are some good options out there.

His JC stats on rebounding were excellent. His scoring? I don't consider a 6'7" power forward who scored 12.5ppg in JC much of an answer to our offensive needs.

The fact that he picked Kent of the MAC over an up and coming MVC team says it all. Yes Kent won 23 games. They also got blown out in the MAC tourney final and lost to S. Utah in some anonymous post season tournament. And most telling of all? They lost to a horrible NIU team that didn't even qualify for the MAC tournament.

Keep looking!

SIU lost to Northeastern, Little Rock and didn’t sniff its conference tournament title game. Let’s be reasonable, shall we?

I am a tad disappointed we didn't land Payton. That he didn't play at Pitt is concerning, but his athleticism is next level and I thought what he brought to the table would have been a good fit within the current roster.

Let's wait to see if Wonders can play D well enough to stay on the court before we assume he can help with scoring.  I agree 100% that he has the potential to do so, but I also felt the same way about Harvey who had done relatively well as a Freshmen at Eastern but his lack of defense (and then health issues) kept him from being the scorer that both the fans and coaches hoped he would be.  While I'm confident that both Wonders and Ebube have potential, the reality is, we simply don't know until we actually see them on the court.

Yeah I've learned over the years that no matter how excited some are over recruits, we really don't know how good they are or have the potential to be until we see them play.

@saluki82

Yes, unfortunately, I learned the hard way with Harvey.  The year he sat out after transferring we heard from players, the staff, etc what a great scorer he was going to be.  I also got my hopes up for Muila and while he did provide some moments, he didn't play as well as I had hoped/expected after being ranked so highly in JUCO.

So, while I AM excited about the potential of Wonders, Ebube, etc I want to actually see them play before getting overly excited.

Haven't seen anything for 2022.  Really been quiet even for transfers.  Can't imagine they're after any 2022 high school kids still unless they know Harvey won't be back because they really need another high quality transfer.

Nice job putting that together. If I look at this list for our athletic 4...it doesn't inspire much confidence. The top rated uncommitted guy, Isaiah Cottrell, would admittedly be a pretty good get for us, but he is very likely destined for UNLV (has a visit this weekend with them and he's from Vegas). Even if he doesn't sign with them, he's had an official visit with Washington as well...he's headed somewhere else.

Next is Trey James (a 5 not a 4) and then Gus Okafor, a bit undersized, but would be a pretty solid get...he's supposed to be announcing his final five pretty soon. It just seems we have a very small pool of people to draw from that could have an immediate impact.

I guess we'll see how things progress and the staff could certainly have others they are talking to that we don't know about, but I'm getting a bit nervous at this point.

yeah this is the list Salukis60 put together a few weeks ago, I just added the ranks and the 2023 projections.  I'd guess Trey James is the most likely option based on the guys we've been in on.  It's always possible guys end up falling to SIU that we didn't expect to be available.  Outside of the Chris Payton news, there's not been much on SIU the last few weeks.  I just hope we weren't 100% banking on Payton.

@salukiworld. Great list. I believe we has offered a few athletic wings from the JUCO world. Do you remember the names.

Think 6'6 J'Vonne Hadley from Indian Hills was one of them:

https://indianhillsathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2021-22/bios/hadley_j-vonne_dvrx

There's also 6'7 Allen Mukeba from Colby Community College

https://colbytrojans.com/sports/mbkb/2021-22/bios/mukeba_allen_rpi9

Western Illinois just got a commit from Alec Rosner from D2 Winona State but he was more of a smaller guard.

Added these two to the list.  Foster is the 103rd ranked player in the portal (9.2 OBPR, 9.1 DBPR, 18.3 BPR).  He was dismissed from Iowa State because he was named a target of a sexual assault investigation in Ames but had his named cleared.  Was a 4 star out of high school.

Warren is the 1106th ranked player in the portal (-3.1 OBPR, -6.5 DBPR, -9.5 BPR)
