Last year was JD's Junior year on SIU's website so I've always been under the assumption that he has an extra year if he wants it and SIU wants him back. They might not though with Hornecker, Ebube, and Rupert needing minutes.
I'm ready for the COVID years to go away, been so confusing the last few years 🤣
We have over the last month or so witnessed a metamorphosis in JD Muila. Right now he is more productive than Rupert, and that is not a knock on Rupert. From BM’s conversations, it appears he has just busted his rear practicing and getting stronger, and has developed an around-the-rim offense. His rebounding and defense has also picked up. I cannot imagine the staff not wanting him back. There is not another MVC team who wouldn’t love to have him. (FT shooting notwithstanding 😎)

I don't disagree with with any of what you post - JD has really picked it up in recent weeks. However, the logjam in the post will reach a breaking point if Muila comes back for another year, assuming the young bigs all return ... it's already tough to watch Scottie getting DNPs (or playing 4-5 minutes) after his redshirt year and Cade getting DNPs despite burning his this year.
You can call it a good problem to have, but I'm sure there will be some "real" conversations about all this after the season.
Absolutely agree, but the one thing that this staff WILL DO is try to WIN and they will keep and play the players that give them the best chance at winning at any given time. Right now, to the dismay of a few, that is JD. And I for one could not be happier for him. The fact he has seemingly saved his best "for last" is great for him personally as well as our program.

This program has to win now (as we all know, we're long overdue), so I'm all-in on playing Muila 25 minutes a game this season if that gives SIU the best chance to compete for an MVC title.
As with everything, though, there is the short term and the long term. I'd imagine the coaches have in mind who they need to keep to give the program the chance to sustain success beyond this season and will take all that into account once we head into the offseason.
And I'm happy for JD, too - he seems like a wonderful guy.
I've always been the biggest Muila fan on the board, never really got the hate from some for him. I think some of it has to do with the fact that he struggled on offense and that's magnified when you don't have a good offensive team. He's one of SIU's top defenders though the last two seasons.
Guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there but I'd like to see him back but also don't want to lose one of Rupert, Hornecker, or Ebube if the playing time won't be there for another season.
We’re in win now mode. And especially if Domask and Jones return, we are most definitely staying in that mode next year. Play Muila if he’s still the top guy, and let whatever shakes out, shake out.
I think we have a ton of talent with the young guys for the future, and I’d hate to lose them. But if it’s choosing a championship or keeping a certain player happy, I’m taking the ship. Also keep in mind, as we win, it’s easier to recruit high level players. So let’s do just that… WIN!
I think having too many good bigs belongs in the “high-grade problems” file.

I said something very similar in another thread. Winning and the expectation of winning in the near future makes SIU a desirable destination. As long as they continue to bring in the right guys, they can sustain winning and then turn SIU into a TOP mid major program year for the foreseeable future.
Don't know when 247 updated Kennard Davis' commitment but they updated SIU's top recruits of all time and 2 of the top 4 will be on next year's team
Vashon is playing Chicago Simeon at the Bank of O'Fallon Shootout at O'Fallon H.S. next Saturday night (Feb. 4th) at 6:30. Not sure if there are still tickets available.

I just roll my eyes and shake my head when I see those first two names.....
I wonder what sort of response you'd get from Chris Lowery if you asked about those two (and others in that class).
I was going to get tickets for this to see Davis. However, you have to purchase tickets through the "gofan" app. I looked that app up and it's malware/adware. No way I'm using that app. Does anyone have any suggestions?Vashon is playing Chicago Simeon at the Bank of O'Fallon Shootout at O'Fallon H.S. next Saturday night (Feb. 4th) at 6:30. I am starting to wonder if Cade will be here long term. Rupert and Ebube seem cleary ahead of him even after Ebube missed so much time. I think JD still has one more year too?Don't know when 247 updated Kennard Davis' commitment but they updated SIU's top recruits of all time and 2 of the top 4 will be on next year's team
@saluki-4-life Cade should have accepted a redshirt -- no matter if he's here or elsewhere. Watching him the little bit he's played, he clearly needs more time to grow into his 7'.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
