The only way this team gets better next year, is if Domask and Jones aren't the two best players on the team. If that is Davis coming in and being freshman of the year, or if its through an impact transfer, or both, i don't know, but that is the only way we get better. Domask and Jones aren't going to get any better than they are right now. If they come back, id be really happy they did, but we will be looking at another year of the same team. Lets be honest, this team is one of the top 4-6 teams in the league in a down year for the league. That isn't that impressive. If Jones and Domask come back and we can hold onto Scottie and Cade, along with the addition of Davis, I see this team being quite a bit more dangerous next year.We obviously won't KNOW until the end of the season, but I am pretty confident the core group sticks around, using their COVID year. Next year should be REALLY fun.
I'm not so sure about the core group (Domask and Jones) coming back. They may feel they have done all they can with this team and look for a change in their final year of eligibility. We would have to hit home runs in the portal to replace their scoring. Even if they come back, we're looking at the same team as today with the addition of Davis. Not a great outlook, the way we're playing lately.

Is this a serious post? Look at the team we played yesterday with 3 6th year seniors. You don’t think Penn is better? You don’t think Brody got better? Come on man. I think they both would be improved next year. Is it going to be a significant jump…probably not, but they would certainly be able to add things to their game. Good players don’t just stop getting better at this age, unless they don’t want to put in the work. If that’s the case they probably should just move on.
I don’t think they have to bring in someone that is better than those two (if you look around there aren’t too many Domasks just laying around), but I do 100% agree they need another impact player. They needed an impact player after last season and they didn’t add it (I think X and Newton are good players, but they haven’t shown to be that consistent third scorer we desperately need). That is 100% on the coaching staff. They can’t miss this offseason. If Domask and Jones are both gone next year…we will need to add a lot this offseason…I sure hope they stay.
Honestly, i don't see where there has been any improvement from either Domask or Jones for the last couple years, i don't see why there would all of a sudden be some improvement next season. Don't get me wrong, id love for them to come back, but if anyone is expecting them to be improved in any significant manner next year over what they have been the last three years, i think they will be highly disappointed. What we need is an impact transfer. Or we need Davis to be rookie of the year and mvc first team type player as a freshmen. Just getting Jones and Domask back and them posting the same numbers they have for the last three years, is not going to be any sort of improvement. The only way this team gets better next year, is if Domask and Jones aren't the two best players on the team. And if you think i was saying i don't want them back, you misread my post. I do, but we aren't going to be any better unless we also get a player that is at least as good if not better than they are to play along with them. Saluki82 said he thought them coming back along with Davis coming in, and two guys that can't even sniff the floor this year, would make us a much more dangerous team. That is not the case. We need someone else as good or better than them to compliment them. More of the same old same old will only get us another team just good enough to miss postseason play.I would take Marcus and Lance anytime.
Thank you for setting me straight. Maybe I should go back and change my post so it fits what your opinion of next year might be.And if you think i was saying i don't want them back, you misread my post. I’d argue Lance could definitely be better. His 3 point shooting percentage is way down. If he finds his stroke in a 5th season, he could make this team a lot better. We know he can. We’ve seen it before.
Thats a good idea. You should definitely do that. lol 🤣Thank you for setting me straight. Interesting posts above, and agreed that another impact scorer or two is very much needed, even if Domask and Jones opt to return.
Regarding Lance, in addition to what SIU_2011 notes above (edit: now below for some reason?), I would also submit that consistency is another area that has been lacking this year/needs improvement. He has had so many games where he's really subpar for a half and then comes on in a big way, and Saturday's game at Drake is a reminder that playing 20 minutes often doesn't cut it against quality opponents.

I get your broader point and agree they need another impact player, whether Davis (an awful lot of pressure to put on a freshmen) or a transfer (my preference). Someone who can knock down an open 3 consistently and/or create their own shot.
I don't know how much more you can realistically expect Domask to improve...he's first team MVC and aside from his 3 pt percentage and TOs he's statistically better or the same in every other category from last year. I don't need him to improve that much, knock down a bit higher clip from outside and limit turnovers a bit. Both of those could be accomplished with having another guy out there other teams have to worry about so he's not constantly doubled with impunity.
Jones has had an off year on offense. His turnover numbers are down and his assists are up (Thank you X for letting him play off ball!), but everything else is down, significantly on 3 pt percentage. He would equally benefit from another scorer/creator, but I also think just having an offseason to work on his shot and flush his system. He's a better player than what he's showed offensively this year. Just getting him back to a decent clip from outside 32-35% would do wonders for this team and his game. So again, don't need a huge jump where he's dropping 22/game and shooting 40% from three (I'll take it though), just getting back to where he was last year minus the free throws and turnovers would be massive.
They aren't that far off...if you look at the top teams in the conference, they all have at least 3 impact players...Bradley (Leons, Mast, and Deen), Drake (DeVries, Penn, Wilkins and Brodie), Indiana St (McCauley, Henry, Neese, and Avila), Belmont (Sheppard, Tyson, Friberg). All of them have that 3rd or 4th guy. Until we are able to find/develop that third scorer, it's going to be tough to expect a Valley championship/at large caliber team.
What does this say about what the staff thinks about Jones and Domask coming back... I feel like recruiting is making it seem like the staff really feels they will be back.Think we had an offer out there on Goss:
We did. We have no other offers out there for 2023 that I know of.

I think it could have an impact but I think the staff also knows that the transfer portal is just as important if not more important than high school recruiting. You almost want to leave yourself 2+ extra spots just because you can really upgrade your team in one offseason if you hit the portal correctly.
Would we be better next year with Lance and Marcus? Players get wiser and better every year they play at this young age. Would be awesome if they came back.
Cade, Scottie, Dalton, Troy, Foster, and Clarence will all be better. Ebube will be in better shape. Kennard Davis will be good enough to help as a freshman. A.J.? JR Jacobs?
The big IF is point guard. XJ and JN will be done, and XJ's been a great asset to the team. We will need more than just DB at point.

1. Vashon (17-7)
Last week: 1
Everyone in Class 4 has been put on alert. Vashon is hitting its stride and the defending Class 4 champions are looking to add to its trophy case. The Wolverines swept Gateway STEM and Gateway Legacy Christian easily before handling Hickman at home to stretch its winning streak to 10 games. SIU-Carbondale commit Kennard Davis Jr. continues to lead the way with 14.5 points and 6.2 rebounds a game. The Wolverines host Carnahan and Battle before getting ready for their march toward the Class 4 crown.
