I'd be pretty stunned if Kennedy didn't end up at SIU if those are the schools with the Mullins connection. I think he's a good player, especially on the defensive end, but I'm not sure he helps their scoring much. They'd have to add a few other scorers.
He shot decent from 3 this year but the 2 prior years he shot 24% & 25% respectively. He's not a particularly good FT shooter for a guard either. He also seemed to lose his starting role in January and played, and scored, less as the year went on. I think there are MUCH better players out there and players that can add to our main weakness, which is lack of scoring and shooting well.
Respectfully disagree that there are many “much better” players than Marquis Kennedy that Southern has a realistic chance to land. He was a significant piece on some very good teams, is athletic as hell, long, and would be a very strong veteran presence on a team that may need it.
Maybe a change of scenery would spark him after a frustrating year at Loyola. No, he’s not a 20 ppg guy, but there’s a reason the entire Valley wants him.
I'd be thrilled with Kennedy - don't forget he was the Valley 6th man of the year, and on that team he didn't need to score 15-20. Great defender and would bring a ton of experience (not to mention more NCAA tourney experience) to the team.
However, the scoring capability is there, as this year he had a few solid stat lines:
George Washington: 23 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 0 turnovers
Stanford: 14 points, 8 rebounds
DePaul: 26 points, 5 rebounds
What a fantastic overall performance by Mr. Davis and Vashon in their SemiFinal win. 20 ponits, 7 rebounds, 4 steals! Coach Mullins must like what he witnessed today!
GO DAWGS!
To be fair, I didn't say that the better players in the portal were ones we had a high chance of landing. I should have added the caveat that there are much better SCORING guards out there and that is what we need IMO. If we were able to add a couple legitimate scoring guards/wings, Marquis would be a great bench addition.

Vashon faces it's toughest in state opponent tomorrow with scoring juggernaut Central (Park Hills). Their scoring differential is just shy of 21pts (72 - 51.5) while the more defensive minded Vashon's scoring differential is slightly less than 16pts (61.5 - 45.9). The each beat their only common opponent by 30pts. Really hoping Vashon can pull off the Threepeat, led by our very own Kennard Davis. Of any recruit we have signed under Mullins, Davis is the one I am most excited about. His length, defense, slashing and rebounding skills are exactly what this team needs. When he improves his shooting, he could be a next level player.
Good Lord! He looks like he is 35 years old!I'd be thrilled with Kennedy - don't forget he was the Valley 6th man of the year, and on that team he didn't need to score 15-20. Great defender and would bring a ton of experience (not to mention more NCAA tourney experience) to the team.

Interesting to see us recruiting a few true point guards. Wonder what that means for X and Banks

Don't know if who we're recruiting matters much, it's smart to put a wide net out there. But I think it means more for Lance than X or Banks.

Wouldn't mind seeing X play off ball a little more. Pretty good shooter when his feet are set
