Would Russell have to sit a year? He was a walk-on at Saint Louis and transferred over to SEMO. Guessing he goes high-major either way though.
I don't think so. He has two years of eligibility left. He's going to have a lot of suiters with that scoring average (18.1 ppg). He scored 17 when we played SEMO earlier.
Ive watched Russel put up 30+ points multiple times this year. Kid also loves to trash talk. I’d love him to be here!
Maybe he'd like to play with his ex-teammate, Kennard Davis.
Here's another longshot Vashon product in the portal: https://twitter.com/BySamGordon/status/1637895551449718785

If he is a trash talker, i'll pass. I hate programs like Murray, i don't want to be one.

To be fair, Lance Jones is too. I can see similarities in the two, where they are but you may not necessarily know it unless you’re up close.

Larry Bird was the ultimate trash talker. Russell backs it up. 18.1 ppg.
Great Lakes (strong DII league) player of the year Rasheed Bello is in the portal and could be a guy to watch for Southern. He went to DePaul Prep, a program the Mullins clan has strong ties to, for high school. He's a small but dynamic guard and apparently a very talented two-way player. I think he has two years left.

Can we stop recruiting D2 players, please? Verplancken was mediocre at best, D'Avanzo was completely overmatched at the D1 level, Ferguson couldn't even see the court on a team that struggled with both size and scoring from the 2/3 spots.
Generally players that are at D2 schools are there because they are D2 level players.
Just clueless how close the top level d 2 players talent level is. Yes as a whole d1 is obviously better….but just look around and you can see there is talent that has been overlooked for one reason or another.

As for Verplaken…..he seemed to fair pretty well this year for Weber St.
Dont be closed minded to D2….just have to select the right ones.

D2 player from Parkside
18 points, 4.5 assists, 5 rebounds a game as a sophomore in D2. Shot 43% from 3, which wasn't an anomaly as he shot 40% as a freshman. Would be our 3rd point guard if X and Dalton stay. 4th if you include the preferred walk-on that redshirted. However, X and Dalton are gone after next year. He is small, but his stats jump off the page.https://twitter.com/sheed_bello21/status/1638184770646704128?s=46&t=7s0hTttieSER8wqRSA0LoA

Also, and importantly given Southern's M.O., he can defend. From his player of the year article: "He has 69 steals on the season, which is the most in the GLIAC and third most in all of NCAA Division II as of March 1st."
Edit: For balance's sake, it looks like he did not play very well in their exhibition game against Bradley on in their conference and NCAA tournament losses at the end of the season.

Not ideal on the Kennedy front. Hopefully the Purdue outreach isn't overly serious, but their guardplay didn't look so hot last week ...

Do you happen to know what Kennard's final stats were for the championship game? Find it very frustrating that I can not find anything.
I know he had 9 points and a huge block in the first half, but know nothing else. Thanks.

We offered back in 2019.
I watched a lot of their games as I drafted them in my NCAA ($$) pool. He is an absolute scoring machine and can defend as well. If the pro thing doesn't work out, he'll very likely go to a Power 5.
