@dawgs98  Recruiting has a ton to do with building relationships. What does that tell you about how his dad feels about our program?

That's just an asinine thing to insinuate. Mullins father is not steering wolves players away from our program. The best wolves players go to high major programs. There are plenty of other factors as to why mid major wolves prospects didn't go to Southern. Ebube was a good fit and we got him, we will get other wolves players.

@resaluki-88 excuse me ? I never said that. I don’t believe for one second he is doing that. You can say what you want I was just asking what do you think that says about our program?  I happen to know Bryan’s dad very supportive of his sons . Enlighten me why he wouldn’t send more players to SIU because I truly don’t know and there have been a number of mid major players that have played for the wolves that we have recruited and  went elsewhere.

There is no other way to interpret your post other than his dad isn't supportive. Re-read your post. I understand what you mean now, but that wasn't how it was written.

@resaluki 88 Sorry if you interpreted that way. I don’t think he is actively steering players away but he certainly isn’t sending them here. Maybe he doesn’t want it to become a conflict of interest. I am sure he is extremely supportive of his son. But the fact is we have only gotten one wolves player here other than Benson for one season,  and when Bryan was hired that was one of the plus factors that SIU fans thought would be a good recruiting pipeline. So far that hasn’t happened. I guess it could always improve.

mike mullins is not the deciding factor on where his AAU players go to college, unless they were his children.  there are more important considerations, like family, geography, area of study, cute cheerleaders, etc.

Winning is an important factor too, maybe the most important.  It's why I wish there was more urgency the last 2 years to win.  SIU doesn't have much to sell outside of fanbase right now.  Not one guy we're recruiting remembers the last time SIU even made an NIT.

I really hope we're trying to get some high major players in for next year

There have been recent posts about apparently not recruiting at JAL.  Out of curiosity I looked at the 2012-2022 roster and their ultimate destinations.  I believe that team went to sweet 16 and was ranked #4.

If my research is correct, here is what I found out.  Of the 13 roster players from 21-22, 4 returned to the championship team of this year and 3 are not playing.  The others transferred to other schools as follows:

Cleveland State - started

Missouri - did not start but ave 23 min per game

SIUE - ave 8 min per game

Utah Valley - ave 8 min per game

Ark State - play 1 sem. Not on roster. Found a YouTube video of 100 mph      car chase by police.  Probably why not on roster.

Canisius - recruited but did not play.   Arrested for possession of 2    weapons.  Received 5 years probation in Feb.

While I'm certainly no recruiting expert, it would seem we are not winning a Missouri recruiting especially with Kyle there.  The Cleveland State could have been a good catch.  Given our needs and wants, the remaining players weren't it.  We don't need 8 minute players on weaker teams and the rest have issues.  The 2023 championship team has more interest from schools including the bigger conferences which makes it that much tougher to recruit.  Plus there are other determining elements outside of court in a recruiting process. Namely  school size, geography, metro area, social life, academic interest

I realize this is just a look at 1 year and know there have been some good players pass thru that program.  There are several reasons for playing at a JC; lack of exposure, academics, skill level, personal issues etc.  Maybe some are just good JC players and play well against JC level competition.  Given Mullins expectations off the court and in the classroom some players there will not be what he wants and some may not have the skill set he desires. I have no knowledge why historically there have been no recruits from there.  Absent someone directly asking Mullins, BH or the Smithpeters, we aren't going to definitively know.
