I don't know how you think this could be a top 5 team. I like the Howard addition and don't think he's at fault here. The truth is, the past stuff is really bad at the portal. They've proven this over 4 years. Last year should have been a better season than it was but they couldn't improve the talent around Domask and Jones and they left. Now they've likely struck out on Kennedy and Smith who were 2 of their top options. Can't rely on Howard to fix 5 spots when he's been here for 2 weeks.
NO ONE here said this was a top team NOW. We don't play a single game until November. Since some want to bring up our status as of today, here is a fact, we are tied for first in the standings for next year.
My biggest question mark is: will Mullins sign or play the guys that Howard presents to him.
Or will we be turning down good players because they “don’t fit the culture.”
What if Howard brings in a couple guys who are really good offensive talents, but they don’t play great defense?
What then?
Are they going to ride the bench for clearly inferior players? Again?

I’m praying for some kind of high impact guard to visit. Adding an Allick would be great but our guards are a major problem right now and guards win you games in March.
One guy that we should be after (that I don’t see a connection yet) is Tanner Holden from Ohio State who just entered the portal. He didn’t get much run at OSU but averaged 20 points per game at Wright State the year before.
Yeah it’s kinda crazy to say we are a bottom 4 team because we only have X amount of players. Haha. Are you expecting us to just not field a team? An incomplete roster isn’t a bad roster. It’s just not there yet.

I believe some folks on this message board may feel frustrated because they are not in the know regarding recruits, when they feel they should be. I certainly do not recall last year seeing X, Big C, or Newton being listed on this site, or Twitter via recruiting experts as being players SIU were after. However, much like this year, we did see a large number of players mentioned that SIU had reached out to. Don't think we knew at all until it was officially announced by Saluki Basketball that these three players were joining the team. Same with Ben Coupet. Why would that change now?
Why in the world would SIU administration, athletics, Mullins and boosters agree to hire Jerrance Howard if they did not think he could/would provide the boost that this program desperately needs? Was there a plan discussed and put into place, on how to achieve this boost? Was the hire made just to get SIU's name out there on ESPN, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, MySpace? The man has a proven record in recruitment! Yes, it is indeed an easier proposition to recruit top players to schools such as Texas, and Kansas. Those most likely are the five and four star players that for years (long before NIL) were going to schools like that, and getting paid to do so. Was a detailed plan with objectives, goals, and end results calculated, to maximize the investment? Wager me a yes.
Predicting where our team will finish on April 28th, and calling the MVC weak next season is just plain silly. May 11th is the final day players can opt for the portal. There are many names, and talented players still to be added. 13 days left for players to jump ship. Looking forward to our additions. Don't be a silly goose. Keep the faith, and trust the process.
