Tanner Holden, would be nice as he averaged 20 a game his last year at Wright st ….. with our roster the way it looks , I think once again scoring could be an issue

I wonder if they have any interest in Tanner Holden, shooting guard leaving Ohio State.  He played at Wright State prior to his one year at Ohio State and had very good offensive stats with Wright State. He would be a one year player which may not be what they are looking for.

the staff is most definitely recruiting grad transfers (and other veteran players) to round out the roster. They’d be ok with a guy with only one year, I suspect.

Does anyone think that with the recruitment of Sharp and Miller, plus the return of Jacobs off his redshirt year, that Johnson may be the shooting guard this year?  He did shoot over 40% from three last year and had some big shooting games. Maybe the coaches feel he and Brown can fill this position.

No way, X will be starting PG. He may get a little time at the 2 as he did very occasionally last year. Miller will get time at PG when X is out along with playing the 2 guard. Sharp may get a little time at PG if he doesn't redshirt. Since Jacobs redshirted last year we may even see him play point for a few minutes here and there. Miller, Brown and whoever we sign next will split most of the time at the 2 guard.

I adore Marcus, but the offense is going to be much more fun to watch this year. Having one guy that you run the entire offense around can be beneficial to the final score but it makes it much harder for everyone to get consistent touches and for the ball to move quickly.

I had an idea on Miller, Hensley, and Sharp a few weeks ago.  Now I’m totally in the dark for the remaining additions.  I have 11 names currently on my list: (in order of when they were added)

1) DeAnthony Tipler, 5-10 grad senior guard from East Tennessee State.  Should be announcing soon.  Final 5 was SIU, Miss State, Bowling Green, Coastal Carolina, and Sam Houston State

2) Terrell Ard Jr., 6-7 Sophomore Forward from Presbyterian.  Recent reports seem to indicate we’re not in hard on him

3) Kevon Voyles, 6-3 Senior Guard from Maryland Eastern-Shore.  Averaged 12.9 PPG last year.

4) Nick Krass, 6-4 Freshman Guard from Oregon State.  Didn’t play much last year.

5) Daniel Nixon, 6-7 Sophomore Forward from George Washington.  Talented player that’s battled injuries early in his career.

6) Parker Braun, 6-10 Senior Forward from Santa Clara.  Probably the best player on the list.  Wouldn’t be surprised to see him go high major.

7) Langston Wilson, 6-9 Senior Forward from Washington.  Obviously visited SIU a few weeks ago.  Is visiting Milwaukee this week.

8) James Graham, 6-7 Sophomore Forward from Missouri State.  Extremely talented player that started at Maryland.

9) Dee Barnes, 6-4 Senior Guard from Southern Utah.  Had a list of about 40 schools interested in him.

10) DeLonnie Hunt, 6-0 Junior Guard from Wagner.  Averaged 11.1 PPG last year.

11) Julian Vaughns, 6-3 Sophomore Guard from the University of Alberta in Canada.

I like a lot of the guys on Southern's roster and it might be one of SIU's more athletic and bigger groups that they've had. Could be a pretty fun team to watch.

That said, unless they pull off a late surprise and bring in someone who can start at the 2 or 3 with some legit scoring chops, SIU will be pretty lightly regarded going into the season based on having nobody with a reputation as a major scorer (Miller would probably be closest having averaged around 10 ppg in a lesser conference). Preseason rankings don't mean much and of course there's the potential to outperform expectations, but that's just the way SIU will be viewed around the league, barring a pleasant surprise or two.

I like all 3 additions so far and think they’re doing a good job building something for the future but still not very high on this team for next year unless a big scorer is added.  I do think the offense will be a bit more watchable but I think a lot of Domask and Jones taking a lot of shots was strictly out of necessity.  I don’t think you absolutely need a player like Domask that has 27.8% of possessions go through him but I do think you need 1 or 2 guys that you absolutely trust down the stretch of games and they don’t have close to that guy right now in my opinion.

Loyola lost Milton Doyle who was an absolute stud there for 4 years there and we all thought they wasted those years and would take a big step back as a program and they ended up making the Final Four the year after he graduated.  But they had Clayton Custer, a pretty high profile transfer from Iowa State on that team.

I mean Custer was a highly rated in terms of high school rating (3 star had some pretty big offers), but didn't do anything at Iowa State of merit (wasn't a big time scorer there, in fact barely played). If that's the qualification, there are some folks on the list you posted that would qualify on those same metrics.

I agree it would be nice to see someone sign that was a proven and proficient scorer at the collegiate level, but not necessary as evidenced by your example above.

From that list, I really like Graham (I know didn't play a ton at Mo St. BUT), showed the ability to be a knock down shooter, has some length and quickness. He was definitely high regarded coming out of HS as evidenced by the Maryland commitment. Not sure why Ford didn't play him much, but worth a shot in my eyes as long as he can meet the demands on D that Mullins requires.

Also think Krass would be a really good piece. Showed the ability to shoot the ball in high school and has a nice mid-range game. Feel like he would slot in perfectly at the 2.

Voyles seems like a solid get, but he only has one year remaining and his 3 point % dipped a bit last year.

I'm pretty over Wilson at this point, seems like he's fishing for NIL money and I think Hensley took his slot.

Whoever they bring in at this point needs to be able to shoot the 3...I love our length and athleticism, but don't see a ton of shooters.

Custer would have been SIU’s 3rd highest rated recruit ever in the 247 era out of high school and Loyola got him after 1 season (he sat out due to transfer rules).

@salukiworld yeah he was highly rated in high school and Loyola getting him was huge...my point was more on the proven scorer piece. He wasn't one in college before going to Loyola but turned out to be a monster in the valley. The same could be said in a couple years about a few of the guys we are recruiting now and one that has already signed in Hensley (he was #149 vs #170 for Custer coming out of high school).

I'm not saying this to be argumentative, just that I wouldn't jump off the cliff for next season just yet. I agree we need more, but we also have two more scholarships to go...who knows who comes in (proven scorer or highly rated out of high school...hopefully both 😀). Like I said, of the guys on that list that we've had known contact with, I like Graham and Krass the most.

I think Krass would be a good get. You watch him and he's got a pure stroke, would be an awesome SG. Really fast release and a high vertical to shoot over defenders.

Curious about JR Jacobs. Is he on scholarship? He was an assist machine in HS and could shoot the three too. Not big but neither was Mike Rodriguez who led SIU in scoring, assists, and steals in 2016.

JR is a freak athletically! If you watched him in warmups you would have seen some acrobatic dunks. He easily has the highest vertical on the team, and it's not even close. He had a couple low/mid major offers out of HS, but turned them down to be a preferred walk-on at SIU. I'm sure SIU found him a very similar amount of aid via scholarship/grants as the athletic scholarship players. We have 2 rides left on paper. I am guessing there is a chance he would get one if we don't fill both. However, if he has a similar aid package it may not be necessary. As I pointed out before you don't redshirt walk-ons for no reason. They must see him contributing in some capacity in the future.

@resaluki-88 I watched JR's HUDL highlights. Really quick and a good ball thief too.
