Six months away from the 2023-24 season, and some folks are predicting a middle of the pack finish. That's just plain silly. Perhaps Domask and Jones taking the majority of shots, and being the focus of the offense provided little opportunity for others??? Does anyone else think the players left may have a chip on their shoulders, and may want to prove something? The gloom and doom by some on this site is rather depressing. My stance is to stay positive and make light of the situation. Keep the faith, we ain't done yet y'all.
This is just how I keep thinking of it in my brain
(Not depth chart, just positional)
5: Hornecker, Ebube
4: Rupert, D'Amico
3: Hensley, Davis
2: Ferguson, Brown
1: Johnson, Miller
That looks pretty close to me and shows that we are incredibly weak at the 2-Guard. If we don't sign at least one more player to start at the 2 and do some scoring, we are in for a long season.
The possibility of Ferguson and Davis playing together at the 2 and 3 excites me. There’s some real potential for a very big, athletic lineup.
Man I hope you're right bc that is one athletic and tall lineup, something we haven't seen in quite some time !!!! Very exciting to dream about. History isn't on Ferguson's side though...........a DII player who couldn't crack the lineup last year, even in several blow out games. If he makes the jump though, then I think there is some real potential to be a sleeper team this year.
Bryan and staff have been hinting at Fergusons promise since he showed up on campus. I know he didn’t play a lot last year, but in his limited minutes he showed tons of potential/athleticism. Also, I know it was preseason which should be taken with a grain of salt, but he did score 12 and made an array of highly athletic plays at Bama, who was pretty darn good.
I think he and some of the others deferred a lot last year as Bryan tried to squeeze every drop out of his upperclassmen. Those guys are gone now, so AJ and company will have ample opportunity to show what they’ve got.
Im on the AJ Ferguson hype train until properly proven otherwise.

agree - I think people are expecting way too much out of several young players in Davis, Sharp, and Miller. I mean Jamal Tatum wasn't that great as freshman or a sophomore.
Unless our recruiters can pull a rabbit out of their hat and get a 2 that can really score, we're going to have a disappointing season I fear. We will definitely have more balanced scoring out of necessity. That's a good thing, but I still don't think we have replaced the scoring lost.
We are really going to need more scoring from the bigs. Ebube's conditioning is a real red flag I'm afraid - hope he loses a few pounds and works his tail off this summer. Mullins lack of use of Hornecker last year is another red flag.
Breakout player of the year…Troy D’Amico. Remember this.

Just asking............have you heard ANYTHING or just making a bold prediction? Either way, I hope you're right as he likely will be starting. He has struggled with his lack of quickness, which doesn't allow him to beat most quicker defenders off the dribble. I'd LOVE for him to work on his post game, so when playing the 3 he can back down smaller defenders.
Perhaps we should start a new thread for this discussion? I think it's definitely worthy. I'll take Jarrett Hensley myself as the breakout player.
Troy's a good player - good shooter and doesn't make mistakes often. Maybe a bit slower version of Matt Shaw. Gonna play a lot for us. I think Hensley may play a lot - darn quick for 6' 8" it appears and can provide some much needed offense. Doesn't look like he got much chance at Cincy.

Southern has been linked to him earlier. Really curious what is going on with the final spot or two as we hit the final full week of May.
I'm going to trust the staff on this. I'm not worried about it as much as others. With this portal era now with hundreds of guys still in the portal, I think summer commits are going to be pretty common.
Another thing about our roster next year - I think people are forgetting that Jerrance Howard is also fantastic at DEVELOPING players, not just recruiting. Excited to see how he can progress our guys.

I don't know how "common" summer commitments will be. I get it's going later, but I still think the coaches will want their new guys on campus for summer classes in June.
Also ... if Howard were as fantastic at recruiting and developing players as you say, it's pretty shocking he's not a head coach.
Took Weber 18 years to become a head coach sometime the timing isn't rightI'm going to trust the staff on this. I'm not worried about it as much as others. With this portal era now with hundreds of guys still in the portal, I think summer commits are going to be pretty common.

There's some truth to that, though Howard has a "better"/flashier resume than Weber did and is better known around the country than Weber was as an assistant.
I would say Howard was definitely on the path to becoming a head coach, but if you read his interviews that were done with him - it makes sense why he's here at this point in time.
