One could dream. For those unfamiliar, Chase Lane is the Chancellor's son.
I'm looking at the recent people who have followed him and it's littered with Big 12 and SEC coaches lol
WR:
We have no less than 8 freshmen or redshirt freshmen and 2 sophs - Gibson and Hartrup - on the roster.
Gibson played for his Dad at Romeoville, a 9 year NFL veteran and also played basketball for the Illinois Wolves. He's 6'4", something we haven't seen much on Hill's teams. He played in 8 games as a freshman.
Surely there's a lot of talent there. Some of these guys ran track, played QB, were all-state, etc.
And yet none of them really sniffed the field. I don’t mind a couple guys getting chances, but that can’t be your entire WR core
I’ve only seen 1 WR offer. Does D. Cox have a medical year left? Thought I saw somewhere he is returning or leaning towards another year? Roster says 6th year but if he had a medical redshirt he would have 7th. Redshirt, Covid, and medical?
We just offered DL Tim Varga, who just entered the portal from Eastern. His EIU profile says he was 2nd Team All-OVC in 2021. Not sure how much he played or how he did this year.

@valleyfb Other one Colin Bohanek? I think I missed that one. He looks like a good one too. Looks like he picked up an offer from UNI as well.
I actually see there's a 3rd from EIU who hit the portal this week: Jordan Vincent, a safety who also got a ton of playing time. He's already picked up a bunch of offers but I don't see one from Southern.
@salukiworld He didn't get anywhere near the playing time he should have had at A&M. Chase Lane is an absolute stud. He's definitely staying in the P5 if I had to guess, but it would be a dream if he finished his last 2 years of eligibility at SIU with his dad here.
If he chooses Carbondale it also frees up a scholarship
Why does it free up a scholarship?
No free tuition for children of employees though. 7 year employees can get 1/2 tuition for their children unless it's changed.
Looks like we have our first guy in the portal (at least first that I've seen).

Not a transfer, but Branyon had one more year of eligibility (listed as a Junior on the roster). He was one of the key cogs for the O-line, big hole to fill.

Interesting/sad article in the Athletic about how many of the top high school QB recruits transfer.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
SIU loses an impact player to the portal:
