@salukis60 The end of an era.  Good Luck Marcus and thank you for all of your efforts!  I will never forget the game winner against Missouri State!

Some of you think the program is like folding because seniors are graduating...  Marcus and Lance were always going to play a ton and score a ton, they have been those guys for us for 4 years... That does not mean the others aren't good, but you would have been a fool as a coach to not throw the ball give Domask the ball.  Maybe next year it's more high ball screens with X driving and dishing to shooters. maybe we throw it into a big guy more. Maybe it posting Davis or Troy up on smaller guards and drawing doubles.  Coaches job is to put the players in the best position, last year that meant relying heavily on Domask, next year, we will see.

While I certainly agree with a lot of what you have posted, it all looks and sounds good on paper. However, the fact remains that the offense needs to be more fluent IMO. With Cade, Scottie, Big C, and Troy perhaps rebounding will improve, thus pushing the ball more often. Defense will always be there. With four players graduating, and one transferring for sure, it is a tremendous opportunity for those who have waited patiently to step up and shine!

Well damn. While not really surprised, like everyone else I was hoping Marcus would return. I wish him well look forward to his Saluki hall of fame induction.

@salukiworld they have to extend him after this next season too.

But five years with zero postseason would be tough to justify a contract extension.

next season will probably be his last at SIU if there isn't an NCAA or NIT berth.

if you don't see a contract extend in the next 4 weeks that's a loud signal

you might think the cupboard isn't bare there is a long way to go before we know who else is gone. it's not over yet

we are in panic mode for around here with good reason.

Mullins runs a class program and that's worth a lot.  it's worth a lot more than the days of the carnival barker but we were ready to toss him overboard in to Cedar lake for about the same results.  sure he was a clown but he would still be here with a single NCAA appearance

the next four weeks will make or break the future for a lot of people.

i hope we come out on the right side. i continue to trust in Bryan but the clock is ticking.

it makes me very nervous to see us listed alongside Limestone University in a kids list of suitors like I did earlier this week. i don't pay much attention to those posts, but that was alarming.

I think Mullins will get a shorter extension like Hinson got after his 22 win year 4.  It's funny how Hinson's 4th year was nearly identical to Mullins' 4th year.  Both teams had an awful loss early in the season (SIUe for Hinson, Southern Indiana for Mullins).  The one difference was Mullins beat Oklahoma State to get 1 more win (23).  Neither team was even close to an NIT bid despite the win totals.  Hinson then saw a big decline in year 5...hope this year 5 goes better but I'm not holding my breath.

@salukiworld Why do you think Mullins will get an extension?  He still has 2 years left on his contract.

Why would we be in panic mode? I know for a fact that Marcus leaving has long been the assumption...

@saluki-4-life and you know that how? Not trying to argue but there were only 2 2023 recruits brought in this fall . The SIU BB staff thought there was a good chance Domask would be back. I had my doubts but I am just a fan 🤬and season ticket holder. I and many people close to the program are very concerned that this program is on the right track. Just look at the recruiting very underwhelming. 1 impact recruit in 4 years isn’t good. If fans want this program to be a contender for Valley championship’s and postseason appearances you have to be concerned. If you’re happy with an occasional good season we’re on the right track. I for one want and expect more.

@mdogs1 I am not saying the staff knew 100% but Marcus has been leaning this way since at least early JAN... I am not going into detail on how I know.  I also cannot be sure that he conveyed this to the staff.  Recruiting is a March-May thing now.  Almost every coach is now saying the portal is more important than HS recruits, it is what it is... We have to adjust our thinking to not judging a roster until summer now as opposed to projecting ahead in February or March... Look at the entire MVC, look at college basketball, rosters are a total mess.  Nobody knows what rosters look like right now.  I believe this is heading in the right direction, it is a bit of faith but I see evidence of a program heading in the right direction.  Maybe I will be wrong, but I believe in Bryan Mullins.

@saluki-4-life fair enough.Do you not think it is a little concerning that the B B coaches didn’t have a proper read on Marcus? I use to believe that Mullins was going to get the job done but I also know more than I can post on a fan message board and as I hinted at earlier in my post there are MAJOR concerns with the SIU Men’s BB program at the administration level at SIU. Today’s approach to a successful B-BALL program has changed dramatically from just 5 years ago and some coaches are going to adapt and still win while others will make up excuses why they fail. Bryan Mullins is the HIGHEST paid employee at SIU and at the end of the day he has a job to do and so FAR he has been underwhelming in doing it.  The clock is ticking. I truly hope he gets the job done but I am beginning to have major doubts. I would love nothing better than to be eating crow after next season. He is a class act and I really want him to succeed.

@mdogs1 I believe you... Maybe I am being naive, I am also not loyal to one coach, if they think it is time to move on then that is fine... I just want the program to get back where it belongs.  No coach or player is bigger than the program but it is hard not to root for Bryan.

One way to look at it is for us non college basketball players with our own transfer portals in our careers: would you tell your boss / manager you were looking for another job or would you just get another, better job that pays more and then put in your two weeks?

IMO it's kind of going this direction now so I dont think it's entirely fair to put knowing/ not knowing on the coaches. However, it is certainly on them to be fully prepared for regular roster chaos and still be able to put together contending rosters.
