And a Miami booster paid $1 million for a player. I agree 100% with Barkley.

When Drake keeps their players 5 years and have an old team it’s unfair
When Missouri State and Murray State see all their players enter the portal it’s because Dana Ford isn’t a good coach or the culture at those places is rotten
When SIU loses players to the portal, the portal is unfair
The portal is what it is, the discrepancy came in with COVID. Portal is totally fair, COVID years were totally fair... They were however, unprecedented and unforeseen 4 years ago. Had COVID never happened the guys with COVID years would be gone, it is just a fact. It was a fluky thing that has never and likely never will happen again and it certainly benefited Drake and hurt SIU. The reasons behind that probably fall more on individual players who decided to leave and stay than programs as a whole. When Drake keeps their players 5 years and have an old team it’s unfair

Nobody can argue the portal is "unfair"... Some teams have the upper hand but they are likely the teams who had an upper hand in recruiting anyway.
Some people are so determined to place blame on someone or something that there is a bit of perspective missing.
I think the portal is unfair for MVC schools when a school like Drake takes a chance on Liam Robbins or Joe Yesufu and they develop them into good players and then they leave with multiple years of eligibility left before they reach the peak of their abilities. That's not the case with Jones & Domask here. They stayed their 4 years they thought they were doing when they signed on. SIU couldn't put a winning team around those 2, and they decided to leave.
In the case of Drake, they didn't make excuses at all when they lost Robbins and Yesufu, they just kept reloading.
@salukiworld For sure, one thing that is also killing SIU especially when you compare it to Drake is Carbondale.. The difference between Des Moines and Carbondale is staggering. SIU campus is beautiful but social life outside of campus is not great. Every time I go to Carbondale I think how in the world could you convince an 18 year old to come here over a metro area school or a Chicago area school. So imagine Domask having the chance to live his last year of college in Carbondale or Madison.
He is probably right... What the big boys don't realize is without the mid majors and low majors March Madness loses almost all of its appeal to the casual viewer... They'd be cutting their legs out from underneath themselves... I also think this gives mid majors a chance to recruit some HS kids they never thought possible... The problem is those kids will likely leave after a season or 2 and head for the bigger schools. The way to win as a mid major used to be to get old with good players but now every p5 school can get old in an off season while other smaller programs develop young players for them.@salukifan32 I 100% agree with everything Charles said.

@saluki-4-life I agree with what you said. Mid-Majors make the tournament. End of story.

I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
There are 2 mid majors in the final 4, which is great, but there are much fewer mid majors in the tournament overall. Almost all the mid majors in the tournament are auto bid teams. Far fewer mid majors get at large bids in the NIL/NET rankings era and it is only going to get worse. Charles is right, money is going to talk and the mid major programs are just going to be the G League of NCAA basketball being a developmental league for the big boys.
Virtually everyone on this board agreed the MVC was down this year. Why was that?? This is a rhetorical question. NIL and the portal is bullish!t and as Charles Barkley stated it will be the ruination of college basketball.

Either keep complaining or adapt, it's that simple
BINGO! I'd like to see if the BIG MONEY Conference would bite if all other conferences said they were splitting off and doing their own thing for the end of year tournament. Start sharing more of the revenue.....or all other D1 schools will just do their own thing. He is probably right...
