@siudawgs There was basically no news last year before the signings of X, Rupert and Newton too so we will see.
While I agree, that's not the caliber of transfers we need for this year's team. No slight to any of them, but we needed more last year too. X and Rupert are both good pieces but we need big time scoring from these five remaining scholarships.
@siu_2011 I just meant there doesn't always need to be a bunch of rumors for something to be happening. Also i think X and Rupert are going to have great years.
I hope the reason that we're now in late April and don't have a single signing isn't because the outlook of the program among these prospects is so bad that they aren't interested in joining, despite the potential for some serious playing time.
Whatever the reason, as a fan, it isn't comforting.
There are still plenty of impact players available in the portal.
Still a ton and players still entering. There are still plenty of impact players available in the portal.
@saluki-4-life I agree on the rumor part. I think we could see an uptick from Rupert and X, but we have a significant amount of scoring to replace. Even with decent jumps from folks like Ebube, Ferguson, D'Amico, etc., we have to have some proven scorers come in via the portal if we want to realistically contend for a title. I'm hopeful we see some news start to trickle in soon.
Everybody is antsy right now and not without merit. I was that way with the assistant coaching hire too and they ended up with a pretty damn good hire, so I'll sit back and be patient...I don't have to like it though 🤣.
Edit: Sign Tyson and I'll wait until August 😎
I think even if SIU gets their top 4 targets right now (not including Tyson), they're probably still a middle of the pack team unless they get significant improvements from all their returning players and Kennard Davis is really good for a Freshman. I do think they're recruiting more athleticism and 3 point shooting than they've been recruiting in the past which is a plus.
@salukiworld Who would we classify as the top 4 targets, I'm not sure anyone really knows that.

Thought he was Murray State bound at one point

There aren't many left from the original list but I would think Tevin Smith would be one of our targets. Like someone else mentioned, there are plenty of impactful players left on the portal.
Tyreek Smith is the best player we're after right now. He'd take a lot of the pressure off Hornecker and Ebube in the frontcourt.
I like Kareem Thompson from Oral Roberts as a guy that can shoot and create his own offense to the basket. His numbers aren't off the charts but he played with Max Abmas obviously. Haven't heard anything on him in awhile though.
We're in DeAnthony Tipler's top 5. He's very similar to Lance Jones but hopefully a bit more in control. Short guard that gets a bunch of steals and can hit 3's. I'd like him a lot if he was willing to come in off the bench in the role that Newton played this year. I think he'd be an upgrade over Newton.

Re: Tevin Smith, there was this recent article from the News-Gazette that indicated he had visited UIC, Cleveland State and planned to visit Edwardsville, but also noted offers from SIU and ISU. This seems like a player SIU should absolutely be able to get if they want him, especially with UIC and ISU adding other guards in recent days/weeks (ISU is rumored to be on the verge of getting Davis from Wisconsin).

I really like X.
One thing I really wanna see this year is 2 bigs at a time and a lot more of Cade Hornecker I think we could get a lot of scoring out of our bigs if we work at it and change our offense. Rupert and Hornecker and then Rupert and Ebube.. I really think that would give a lot of MVC teams a fit defensively. In that scenario Ebube and Rupert need to shoot their free throws a lot better... In the right offense Hornecker could be scoring 10 points a game just from free throws. He's a 75% free throw shooter.
I'm really not that upset about Kennedy .. I don't think he was that great of an addition. He probably wants to play in Chicago because of family and a girlfriend or who knows why.
Is SIU likely targeting some guys that nobody is talking about on here?
Supporter of the Fab 4: Scottie Ebube, Foster Wonders, AJ Ferguson & Cade Hornecker.
They’re the ones that can get us where we haven’t been in 15 years.
