SEMO is in better position to take bigger risks than SIU so if they’re recruiting over a talented player like Russell, there’s probably something wrong there
My guess is for Korn it came down to loyalty to the program and the culture he is trying to build there.
The message Brad just sent to the rest of his players is pretty evident! Not letting your highest scorer return this year says a lot to the next player that wants to try the portal next year!
Agree with the earlier post that there’s likely more to this story than is publicly known. I have a hard time believing Korn wouldn’t take him back unless there were additional, underlying factors.
The underlying factor is, in order to take him back, you have to tell someone else that you recruited to come there, that you no longer want them there. That is not a good look.SEMO is in better position to take bigger risks than SIU so if they’re recruiting over a talented player like Russell, there’s probably something wrong there

Keith Pickens, a former assistant under Korn (who also played at Missouri State), left to be an assistant on the UT Arlington staff as well, which is where Russell is going. Surprised to see Pickens jump to be the third assistant on the UTA staff. Seems like a sideways move. Some weird developments at SEMO for sure. Korn will have an assistant spot open now, much like when he hired Wheeler away from us last year. I wonder if any former Saluki teammates like Marcus Belcher may end up there with Korn. DB would be a hell of a hire, unless he’s content coaching high school girls hoops in STL like the feature here mentioned

If Korn told the leading scorer not to return, something is very wrong. Dude was a good player.
Brooks should be an assistant here - guy was an awesome player and just a great defender. Some of these great former Salukis should be head coaches making real money.
Not every former great Saluki player needs to be or will be a great D1 head coach…just like every good Logan player isn’t going to be an All Star once they go D1.
You want to get a good read, just go to Facebook and read the comment section on the article Homan put out on the Southern. A lot of delusional people that think every player on Logan is a D1 star waiting to happen and that Smithpeters is going to win the D1 Natty one day.
I think that SIU has under recruited Logan over the years (for whatever reason), but sheesh. Smithpeters might be a great coach too, but let’s wait to see how he does with more than one season (sheesh again).
With the exception of the kid goin to Mo. This years class are all going low D1. Tells you something about Juco ball.

We lost Tevin Smith to one of those low D1 schools that landed a John A. Logan kid
Not sure Tevin Smith is exactly Chris Paul. Let’s wait and see.
Does anyone know if the people entering the portal after May 11th have to sit out a year or not?
If we had no spots and Marcus Domask called Bryan today and asked for his spot back, you think Muliins would be doing the correct thing in kicking another kid off the team to make room for Marcus? That is laughable, you would build the most toxic program in America. The underlying factor is, in order to take him back, you have to tell someone else that you recruited to come there, that you no longer want them there. @sandman95 I believe they would need a waiver from the NCAA. Grad students are exempt from this rule so veterans can move at any time.

That could be the reason the Dawgs still have two spots open on the roster and appear to not have been aggressive earlier in the portal process.

I really don’t think this was the plan going in. Maybe there was a delay when they lost Monaghan and had to wait on Howard but I don’t think you ever want to have so many spots to fill this late in the process. It’s not like SIU has stolen any huge names yet.
I thimk it is a sign of character on the part of Brad Korn. Good for him.
