SIU heptathlete Madison Meyer (Carterville, Ill.) has been named Missouri Valley Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week following her performance at the Tennessee Relays, the conference announced Tuesday. This marks the first time that Meyer has earned the award in her career.
Meyer was the runner-up in the heptathlon at the Tennessee Relays after she scored a lifetime-best 5,118 points. Meyer came on strong late, as she finished top-3 in the competition's final four events, including a win in the 800m. The Carterville, Ill. native set personal-bests in the 100 hurdles, 200m and 800m en route to her runner-up performance. Meyer's 5118 points are currently the most in the Missouri Valley Conference and ranks her 29th in the NCAA in the event.
Meet day! The #Salukis will compete in long jump, shot put and hammer throw today on day one of the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational.
