The Groff sisters are a great team for the Salukis. Great way to start a career!!

Really enjoyed watching the games last year - should be even more fun this year. BTW, Jackie Lis also had a solo homer in this game - taking up where she left off.

With Maddia Groff, Madi Eberle, and Stinson returning from injury, should have excellent pitching this year.

SIU 5 Texas State 1 bottom of the 3rd. Austin bunt singles for an rbi. Eberle in for Hockerman.

Jen Sewell is doing a great job as HC. Love to see the Dawgs successful!

Not Madi Eberle's day today, as she just got pulled here in the 4th.  SIU's still got a 5-3 lead, but UTSA's putting a lot of folks on the basepaths the last couple of innings.

It's a winner in extras, as the Salukis scratch out a run in the 8th, while Maddia Groff is simply UNHITTABLE today.  She came into a 5-5 game in the 4th with trouble on the bases and shut the door, and then then threw a perfect 5th, 6th, 7th, and now 8th to seal the deal.

For the day, Maddia pitched 11.2 perfect innings to pick up both wins, along with 14 Ks.

Lost to Northwestern State today. Madi Eberle wasn't great and Hockerman walked 4 in just a couple of innings.

Wonder if Stinson is still recovering from injury, because she was very good last year - a strikeout pitcher.

Tomorrow's game vs. Texas St. is on ESPN+ at 10AM.

Salukis take the nightcap over Texas State, 6-1, as Maddia Groff goes the distance, scattering 10 hits to go with 2 K's.  She's THE reason why they're 3-1 to start the season... let's just hope her arm doesn't fall off.  🙂

Madi Eberle gets her first win as Warwick singles home two runs in the 7th.

SIU 3 UC-Riverside 2

SIU 3 Iowa 1 in the 5th  Groff is pitching.

Tomorrow we play Illinois at 11AM. Unfortunately, these games are televised on Flo sports. I'd like to see that game.

SIU 4 Iowa 1 Groff went 7 innings and had 8 SOs and only 1 walk, 4 hits.

Let's whip the Illini tomorrow! Game starts at 8:30AM.

Then we play 7 - 0 Penn St. at 11 AM.

Looks like today's games were all cancelled.

SIU plays a tough Ohio State team tomorrow at 9:30am - I assume that's Eastern time so 8:30 our time.

Dawgs beat SD State Friday on a walkoff HR by Rylie Hamilton 4 - 3.

Get run ruled by Central Arkansas 11 -2. Coach Sewell removed Eberle in the 6th (in hindsight, should have left her in) and Hockerman threw only 6 pitches before getting taken our for freshman McDowell. UCA scores 9 in the 6th to run rule the Salukis. Hockerman threw 4 of her 6 pitches 10 ft over the batter's head to hit high on the backstop. Have never seen that in any softball game. Softball version of Rick Ankiel!!! SIU left 11 runners on base.

Good news is, came back to beat Purdue tonight 2 - 0. Maddia Groff threw a 2 hit shutout, had 8 SOs and 0 walks. She's been great.

Play Purdue again tomorrow at Noon.

This team really needs pitcher Elliott Stinson. She must still be recovering from her season-ending injury. Hasn't pitched an inning.

Also would be nice to see Jackie Lis start hitting like she did last year.

Eberle only lasted 2 innings today. Maddia Groff came back to earth and got bombed today.

Rylie Hamilton had 2 HRs.

Purdue 13 Dawgs 6

We are a SOFTBALL SCHOOL.  Madi Eberle's found a bit of a groove on the mound today, as she's shutting out Dayton through the first two innings while the bats are SCORCHING.

It's currently 11-0 Salukis entering the bottom of the third.  If Eberle gets hot with her pitching to match the incredible start by Maddia Groff, they'll be a serious threat to win the Valley this season.

After run-ruling Dayton 11-3 in the first game today, they're locked in a scoreless battle with Western Kentucky right now, as it's 0-0 in the 5th.

This'll be the team's last shot at picking up another nice non-con win, as WKU's got a solid season going.  SIU's opponents next weekend (Loyola and Green Bay) don't have nearly as good numbers as Western Kentucky does, so winning this nightcap could be key down the road.
