The 16-game win streak ends at UT-Martin in a 5-2 loss this afternoon. Next three at home vs. Northern Iowa are key to not only winning the Valley, but getting that RPI back up, as it took a hit and fell to #67 today.
As of this moment, UNI's the only other Valley team in the RPI top 100, and the Panthers are THUMPING Illinois this afternoon, currently up 9-0 in the 5th.
We suck! LOL
Eberle has just not been very good this year. Don't get it!
Groff only gives up two runs this afternoon against UNI, but the Dawgs could only muster one run of their own, so Maddia gets the loss after starting the season 15-0. It's just the second time all year she's given up more than one run in a game. Salukis have two more vs. UNI this weekend and need to pick up these wins as their RPI has fallen into the 70's now.
After losing the first two to UNI 2-1, Dawgs run Panthers 9 - 1 in game 3. Groff goes to 16 -1. She was also named National Freshman Pitcher than the month.
Maddia Groff pitches a 1 hitter at Bradley - gave up a HR in the 1st when batter held out their bat and closed their eyes. Dawgs 7 Gargoyles 1
Saturday Groff pitches game 2: SIU 8 Gargoyles 3.
Eberle faces 2 batters - both walks - and is relieved by Groff, who loses her 2nd game. Gargoyles 3 SIU 1
Eberle hurt?
Next game at Illinois Wednesday.
Great write-up on how the Salukis and their new pitching coach are working together this season. A behind-the-scenes type of story. I learned a lot!

Groff only gives up 1 run as Salukis whip Illinois 6 - 1.
Jackie Lis is officially out of her hitting slump with 2 -3 and a 2 run HR. Now batting .327.
Next up is Evansville for 3 games starting Friday 5PM at SIU.

Extremely pleased to see the Lady Dawgs take it to the Tribe. 3rd victory vs a BIG opponent. Now 27-8 on the season. Icing on the cake would have been a check for $100,000 !
Sweep those Aces!
Yesterday Dawgs run rule Evansville 9 - 0 in 5 innings. Groff gives up just 2 hits in 4 innings and strikes out 8. McDowell pitches the 5th.
Today, Eberle gave up 2 hits, one a 3 run HR in the 1st. The next 4 innings she no-hit the Aces while striking out 4. Meanwhile, the Salukis took batting practice on the Aces. Just about every player on the roster played and three got their first hits of the season in another run-rule special.
Salukis 20 - Aces 3.
Game 3 tomorrow at noon.
Next weekend 2nd place Belmont comes to town.
For those who follow women’s softball, could you remind me who the automatic bid to the NCAA tourney goes to? Is it the winner of the Valley tournament or is it the regular season winner?
I’m curious how the SIU women are lining up this year in terms of chances for a tourney appearance.
Winner of the conference tournament gets the automatic bid That's how we got to go NCAA last year because we did not win the regular season.
The MVC often gets an at-large bid if there are teams there with good records.... pretty sure that Northern Iowa got an at large bid last year because they won the conference and had a very good record but did not win the conference tournament.
SIU has had quite a few at large bids over the years.
SIU 4 Aces 1 - Groff pitches a 2 hitter and strikes out 15
Dawgs 2 Belmont 0 Groff pitches a complete game shutout to go 22 - 2.
Lis 2 - 4, Caylor 3 - 3.
Tomorrow Belmont's best pitcher is on the mound at 2 PM - strikeout machine...15 - 3 record. Probably Eberle for SIU.

Groff is insane
I’m late to the women’s softball party and just now read up on Groff.
Holy cow, she is impressive.
Will SIU be able to hold onto her after this season? Has NIL affected women’s softball yet, so that the transfer portal is a concern?
