Comes from Alabama and Tulsa. Looks like he stepped down with several games left this past season with no real explaination and an 18-9 record. Hmmmm.

Started the year 13-1 for 'Bama then went 5-8 before he stepped down with 5 matches remaining.
Welcome and good luck, Coach!

Very solid hire assuming that there is nothing nefarious around the in-season resignation. The volleyball community feels it was an odd resignation and surprised that he landed here.

This is a very, very odd hire. 1) Why would he leave 'Bama (especially with 5 scheduled matches remaining)? 2.) Why would he be interested in Southern? Very strange. I really hope we vetted this hire. Too bad we let Justin leave a couple of years ago.
He won't last one season here as he will be entertaining other, better offers. That will mess up one or two recruiting seasons.

We didn't do a good vetting Justin or we ignored it. Schools usually shop around for coaches at the NCAA finals. I don't think that happens for two more weeks. It's nice kill made a fast move. I, too, wonder how long until this guy tires of a low salary and shoe string budget.

I'm betting he was asked to leave. #MeToo deal? Has to be taking a $100K cut in pay. He was making $161K in 2017.
Shocked he would take this job actually.
Liz Jarnigan, Senior Woman Administrator/Internal Operations for SIU, was an associate athletic director at the University of Tulsa when Coach Allen was the volleyball coach there.
A quote from Ms. Jarnigan's SIU bio; "In addition to her SWA responsibilities, Jarnigan will oversee all aspects of internal operations for Saluki Athletics."
Welcome Coach Allen!
Kill pretty much doubled the salary for this position with Coach Allen's hire.
Solid hire. I’m betting Allen will want Volleyball to play in the Arena over a gym smaller than what you’d find in Hoosiers.

Big, empty arena? I think Davies is an awesome, historic place to see a match. Right on top of the action.
Supposedly holds 1250.
Most big time programs don't play in a huge arena. Illinois still plays in old Huff Gymnasium. Looks like Bama also plays in an old, historic building.

SIU should keep the volleyball team in Davies. It's a great place to see a game. You would lose the noise level and courtside seating if they moved the team to the Arena.
Davies can be an incredible home advantage if we can start winning again and pack that place.
I remember way back when WBB used to sell out the place. It was so loud.
Bama plays in an old small facility.
