Think back to late July or thereabouts. Did any of us expect to make the playoffs, let alone get a game at home and be oh-so-close to winning a second-round game?
I know that there is some disappointment, given the way we started the season, but when I put my mind back there, I am pretty pleased.
I was expecting maybe 5-6 . . .
(Inflammatory political snark)
Was out of town most of the day on Saturday, so recorded the game.
After watching and reviewing particular plays, I must say that the better team lost the game. Our defense was once again spectacular. Our offense was solid, with Baker eluding numerous tackles due to a fierce pass rush. My fear, as well as many before this game, was our special team play. The punt return for a touchdown was a shame because our coverage overall IMO this season was superb. We most certainly did not want to go to overtime on the road, and leaving it up to their fine PK. The worse scenario occurred. I believe the refs were consistent on both sides, but do question a couple of calls vs SIU.
a. The illegal receiver down field, that erased a TD to Strong
b. The fake punt for first down not allowed because of jersey numbers?
c. Pass interference on 4th & 1 that looked like a fantastic defensive play.
Extremely difficult game to lose, when the Dawgs dominated in most facets. But it makes one ponder; defeat one of the three Dakota schools, secure a seed at 8-3, and host a second round game at home. Think of the possibilities for everyone involved.
Tough watching this Idaho game. They are up 2 scores…feels like we should have been spanking Albany.

Albany comes back and looks like they're gonna win
I think we're better neither one of those teams. Idaho look like they were beat up from playing SIU and Albany, who looked like crap the whole game, somehow manages to score late and win the game.
@mr_woogers Agree. So close to advancing. Just a shame we could not get it done. SDSU looked beatable yesterday, at least in the first half. Thinking the Dawgs would have had an excellent chance against them based on the game in October.
Perhaps it happens next Fall.
GO DAWGS!!!
