Coach Fuente explains how a visit to preseason camp by Jerry Kill turned into a full-time opportunity
He is a great coach, but the dude is a train wreck. He had reached the BCS heights but had to quit for health and now he is going to coach in waiting at an even bigger more high demand BCS job? Minnesota is a pretty low pressure job by BCS standards and his health couldn’t handle it. How the hell is he going to handle the pressure of Virginia tech exactly?
Plus for all his squawking about loyalty and stuff dude is a vagabond who will drop you like a bad habit if he smells a chance
There are some terribly negative posts in this thread (and ones like it) concerning Jerry Kill.
I would like to see evidence and facts regarding the supposition that Jerry Kill is the second coming of Satan...and a selfish Satan at that...
I'm willing to be persuaded...but you had best back up your posts with more than innuendo, opinion and fake news!
funny that Kill likes to preach about commitment and values. his commitment apparently is only good for a handful of months. at least he places a high value on himself. contracts be damned. get a man fired so you can take his job yet pull the plug after a few months. karma is a bitch and I hope a few more people have started to see through this BS artist.
Kill did a hell of a job with the athletics program. I'm kinda pissed that he's leaving, but at the same time wish him well. Hopefully the new AD is up to the task and continues the positive momentum at a time when SIU desperately needs positive publicity and an identity.
It's even worse when you consider that this was taking place during fall camp - presumably while SIU was also on the field practicing for opening week against SEMO. Perhaps even worse still when SIU is coached by a man who played for Kill and could surely have used all the help he could get as he entered his fourth season as head coach with a career record of 10-23. Brutal.
Virginia Tech coach Justin Fuente called Jerry Kill up during fall camp and asked him to spend a few days in Blacksburg.
Kill, who had successful stints at Northern Illinois and Minnesota, was working as Southern Illinois athletic director after a series of medical setbacks forced him to step away from the field.
Fuente opened his doors for Kill — the longtime coach stayed at the Fuente’s house during the August visit — and wanted his honest feedback on the state of Virginia Tech's football team.
Does Kill actually know what he wants to do? As much as he has jumped around and got in and out of football, it seems like he can’t decide what he wants.
Yes he has.
$$$$.
Go Dawgs!
I bet he still cashed that check from SIU for that week though....

Airdawg86: you are an administrator of this very nice (and actually, quite important) Saluki Sports fan board.
Your credibility ought to be important to you...I know it is important to me (as a semi-regular visitor to your site).
With your comment here (about Kill and money), you're not showing well.
Not at all.
Not at all...and your post invites other posts (which are just as misguided).
I might even call them irresponsible.
As certain as I can be (and trust me, I can be certain on this): Jerry Kill is not about money.
Not at all.
There is a back-story to Kill's departure.
I have not read it on this board...at least so far.
(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”
I'm sure everyone here would love to know that backstory after you dangled it out like bait...Do tell.
I believe Jarnigan will continue to improve Saluki Athletics and pick up where Kill left off. I hope the new President and Chancellor are focused on improving enrollment and academics and that the athletic department will be left alone as long as it is performing well.
@1987saluki Let’s hear this backstory... it’s not like he’s here anymore to get mad if it’s brought to light.
I really hope there is a good back story. Please enlighten us
Sort of odd for him to bother to sue us if he is above money
I don't mind different views regarding Coach Kill, but if there's a backstory here, I'd like to hear it. It isn't like he'll be back here, so we may as well throw it out. I get people defending Kill considering he did a lot good in the short time he was here, I'd just rather people not pretend Jerry is about anything other than Jerry. If the departure was more mapped out (like, say, at the end of the semester for a coaching gig next year) I'd probably let this slide. What I don't like is leaving a bunch of good people who relocated from across the country to Carbondale in the lurch. That's what leaves a bad taste in my mouth about all this.
