Nice straw man. Good Lord.
Why does it have to be an either-or?
Jerry Kill is all about Jerry Kill. That doesn't make him a bad guy, but he doesn't--and never has-- given a sh!t about SIU.
Did he do a good job? Questionable. I think he lent some credibility to the program amongst true believers, and I suppose there is value to that.
But we could have had--by all reasonable accounts--Mullins in place a year ago, but he railroaded it and then weaseled another guy out of a job and put himself in place to be the big hero.
Which I would have been able to hold my nose and accept, but now he's bailing. Again.
F this guy.
Very mercenary, don't you think?
And yeah, sorry: it DOES matter when you make a big stink about "loyalty."
(Inflammatory political snark)

Geez woofie2. Easy buddy.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
i feel like the program as a whole - and several programs specifically - are in better shape than they were when he took the job. i ain't mad at him. We will see in five years if we are in better shape with baseball, men's basketball, etc. and we will see how soccer is doing.
Time will tell.
There should be a statue of Kill outside of the Stadium with the saying "It was an opportunity I couldn't pass up". ....This guy is a millionaire that hops from job to job and people think that he's some benevolent volunteer that bleeds maroon.

I got quoted for that saying, way back in the ST boards.... by Mr Cook himself, during an interview about the BBQ coach search, talking about cyberstalking his plane and the speculation on who we were recruiting.
See you on the road #Saluki fans! #UnleashTheDawg
Thanks to Black Diamond Harley-Davidson, Jimmy Karayiannis, and Coach Jerry Kill for making our new wheels possible.
See, Jerry got 'em a truck. Jerry good! Barkeep bad!
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
Yea I buy the benevolent "wants to spend more time with his family" line, that magically wont matter when he gets "an opportunity he couldnt pass up" to be the head coach or a coordinator or something that involves recruiting and being on the road.
Austin is exactly right, he isnt evil or anything but he is a bounty hunter with not loyalty, as most employees are. The only thing annoying about him is he tries to wrap himself in a cloak of nobility as though he isnt a bounty hunter in it for him and no one else.
And honestly I don’t dislike Kill or anything, I truly don’t, he is great at what he does, but after a guy has hopped as many jobs as he has it just gets real hard to take any excuses or explanations he gives at face value.
With Jerry, what you see is what you get. Its wrong to not give him credit for numerous things. Resurrecting the football program when he first arrived being first and foremost. Secondly , he indeed raised a bunch of money that we badly needed and has at least on the surface appeared to make some very good hires. That said, Jerry has always been like most D1 head guys, on the move to the next best thing, whenever and wherever it might occur. Its the nature of who those guys are. My mistake this time was assuming that since he was nearing retirement and kept his home here that it meant some stability was in store for SIU and its Athletic Dept. I should not have been fooled , nor should the rest of us. We can debate the good and bad things Jerry has done but he is what he has always been. As long as we understand that we shouldn't have been surprised.
It's time to move on and hope our new AD is successful.
Sounds like she plans to upgrade Davies gym and build a practice facility for the basketball teams. Also was working with Kill every step of the way. Makes me confident she can continue the positive momentum.
Liz Jarnigan is also the reason that Volleyball Head Coach, Ed Allen is at SIU, She was an Associate AD and Allen's sport supervisor when he was the volleyball coach at Tulsa.

I always wondered how we managed to land him.
It's really a shame. Bell has a passion for this school. He has ties to the area. Really a horrible situation. Oh to turn back time.
I know few on this board have any use for the Killer, but I found the following article from May 31 on 247sports.com and I found it interesting. I do enjoy watching a man overcome the hurdles in his life and still succeed. I guess I still have a bit of a man crush on him. Helluva coach.
