Also Primos Pizza over near Grand Street has closed.. that was pretty darn good pizza.

Newby's pizza out on 13 toward the mall is open.. I think they were partners formerly.

Rips brick oven pizza near campus across from the Wesley foundation is now open and gets very good reviews .. also have baked chicken which everybody says is delicious.

That entrance to campus is going to look pretty darn good when this welcome center gets built.

Unrelated topic, but I’ll be curious to see what the new enrollment figures are. I’ve been on campus a little bit this week and it seems to have a bit more of a buzz than I remember from years past.

I was wondering what the enrollment numbers are as well.  Glad to hear there’s more of a “buzz” on campus to start the year.  I think Austin Lane has things headed in the right direction, in my opinion.

Fager-McGee on Williams Street in Murphysboro.  The mass transit center in Cdale is making good progress ..a lot of the exterior walls done.. red brick with limestone. They're now clearing out the ground south of the existing train station. I'm not sure if the existing train station will be incorporated or removed. Maybe just building more parking.

Speaking of Murphysboro, the Jackson County mass transit freakish looking huge white circus tent is gone and they're working on a real building along 13 there, across from Walgreens. I guess the tent was simply to isolate the toxic waste soil they were clearing out of there before they could build a permanent structure.

Also another new building is going up along main Street in Murphysboro.. appears to be a restaurant with a drive up .. good sized building with a dining area west of downtown a little bit.

And the new Domino's behind the new Big Muddy Monster McDonald's has been open for a while.. can't say I care for their pizza much.

Papa John's on East Grand near SIU is now open. $7 large with two ingredients the first Tuesday of every month. Unlike Domino's they do put some ingredients on their pizza. Almost hate to refer to these as pizzas when I think of Quatro's Challenge. Pricey but great pizza. I digress. lol

I helped with that circus tent hazmat cleanup site in murphy. That was some seriously toxic shit there. Had to line trailers with a plastic lining to haul it, had to wear full on hazmat suits to be around it, and hauled it to a toxic waste dump in alabama. Shit stunk something awful. Paid well to haul it off though.

The new Tedrick Center is in somewhat the same style as the student services building .

.red brick, limestone, arched windows etc. Should be a very impressive entrance to the campus I think with those two very nice looking structures.

Wish they would get going on the mass com building redo.. Don't understand what the holdup is since the money was approved years ago now. planning money was supposedly released two or three years ago.. the state must be holding it up .

They have broken ground on the new Tedric Center. Big bad backhoe removing light posts, ripping up the asphalt of that big parking lot ... where the old football stadium was.

From what i understand, the money for the comm building was in one of the budgets that were never passed. For two or three years there a few years ago, the state never passed an actual budget, so that money was never actually approved.

"Under the administration of the Illinois Capital Development Board (CDB), the project was in design and scheduled to be bid in the spring of 2015.  The budget impasse halted the project in May 2015.  Funds are currently unavailable for construction." - from the siu facilities page

This struck me as funny....

Right after the start of the semester I saw an article on WSIL about this. They interviewed some student about the new building and the kid bitched about the parking lot being closed during construction and how its closing was "a barrier to my education".

First off, as we all know, that parking lot was a football stadium up to Feb of 2011. Which I'm sure the kid wouldn't know unless they were a local.

Second - With that attitude, there is NO WAY that student would have survived parking in the 70's, 80's or 90's. As some of us would know; if you weren't on campus by 7:30am (7:40 at the absolute latest) you weren't getting a parking spot within a 10 minute walk of the campus core unless someone died and willed you a spot -OR- you had a parent who was on staff and kindly slapped a blue parking sticker on your car on the off chance they took your car to work.

@quatroschallengesaluki Illinois CDB released $8 million for the Comm Building in early 2020. Any updates besides that very old FP blurb?

Nope, all i know is that page says funding is currently unavailable for construction. I know they released 8 million, of what was expected to be an 84 million dollar project. So about 10% of it in 2020, but since then the cost of construction has skyrocketed, so i'd assume that 84 million dollar project is nearly double that by now and i highly doubt that amount of money is going to be available until the governor needs to campaign for reelection next time.
