Speaking of cool Carbondale businesses, I went to Longbranch for the first time today. Interesting menu and great vibe in there. I can't believe I never went there when I was in school.

I think the Long Branch is pretty popular. Wasn't there back in my day. I've been meaning to try it for literally years.
Took my daughter and grandkids to Marylou's recently. She had not been there since she was a student. I have not been there in 6 or 7 years. Food was absolutely great. Love their biscuits and gravy, pancakes were good, the bacon was from a very tasty piggy, and as always the portions were extremely generous. The kids loved it.
I guess Mary Lou's also owns Crazy Joe's Fish House in Ava..never been there.
Faye's, the neat new restaurant in Murphysboro owned by Mike Mills' daughter, also serves breakfast and lunch. Their homemade donuts are absolutely fabulous ... and a bit pricey.
I am thrilled to share that concrete has begun to be poured for the Multi-Modal center. Steel to start going up at start of September! Do I dare say Progress?!!!
Equally thrilling is the new Big Muddy Monster bronze statue in front of the new McDonalds in Murph at the corner of 127 and 13. Lots of people checking it out! Looks like an old HS coach of mine! 😀

You certainly have a way with words! When I'm there for Homecoming I may check it out. It might be the only highlight of the weekend since we play SDSU for HC!😐
Side note: I prefer 17th street BBQ. Can't remember the last time I had MacDonalds.
Yes fast food is certainly not that healthy.. I avoid it most of the time.
The chicken wings at 17th Street are fabulous as is the pulled pork sandwich. Bandanas in Carbondale also has a very good pulled pork sandwich but it's pricier.
A sight for sore eyes......
Big holes in the ground where the new train station is going! Looks like a rebar factory.
Huge circus tent looking structure in Murph for the new mass transit hq. Not sure why they wanted this right on rt. 13. Weird.
The white circus tent structure is on rt. 13 - main drag thru Murph - across from the KFC and Walgreens. Appears to be a large, very tall quonset hut type structure but with plastic stretched over some steel ribs ending in a tall, sharp peak.
Definitely stands out and doesn't have that small town storefront character.
Hideous structure to put on main street in my opinion.

OK, I know what you’re referring to. I assumed the arch structure was just temporary, though, and I wasn’t sure what was being built.
You’re saying it’s a headquarters for a mass transit thing? Is it associated with Carbondale at all?
Jackson county mass transit hq...I assume there will be a brick and mortar structure too. They're still working on it. I guess the tent structure is for buses.

Thanks for the info! I had been wondering. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but any new construction in Murphysboro is welcome. Things seem to be ticking up for that town lately.
The new Big Muddy Monster McDonalds in Murph has opened at the corner of 13 and rt. 127. Quite the drive up business. Bought an apple pie there the other night. Sorta like crust with apple-flavored varnish - had been in that pie warmer for a while. ☹
Address: has it's own street off rt. 127 - Muddy Monster Drive of course
Have we heard if Booby's is going to be open for the football season at all? Homecoming?
