Yeaaaa not really Juco head coach is not quite it.
I actually think a guy with JUCO experience is pretty important in today's portal world. Smithpeter's job every year was rebuilding at John A Logan. Not saying a yearly rebuild should be the goal at SIU but navigating the portal is super important and something Mullins fell flat at.

ummm, i didn't blame him for missouri.Pretty sure the sustained success would be the success he had as a head coach, not the record he has as one of the bottom assistants on an SEC staff in their second year.In the interview he was asked point blank if it had to be DI experience, DII, DIII or even juco, and that is when he said sustained success and he didn't care about the name on the jersey.Yeaaaa not really Juco head coach is not quite it.
Not saying i agree with it, just saying by what Leonard said in interview, he checks all those boxes.
You got him with the HC aspect, but I wouldn't say 0-17 in conference represents sustained success.
kyle isn’t perfect but blaming him for Missouri is moronic and shows a lack of basketball knowledge

there is no context. You don’t want it to be Kyle. That’s fine it’s not even just you two or three people have blamed him for Missouri. That’s not his fault. He isn’t the head coach. That’s like blaming Howard for Mullins lack of coaching skills
Then allow me to add some. There was mention of all boxes being checked, I was merely TRYING to point out that, IMO, that Missouri going 0-17 was not sustained success, even if it was INdirectly. Nothing more. I'm not against Kyle, I'm just against the University not doing their due diligence......IF, and only IF, they alreay have their guy (or gal).

Exactly what I thought when I listened to it.
I have no dog in this fight but I will point out that KYLE Smithpeters, based on his resume, is more qualified for the job than Bryan was when he was hired. Ten years of sustained success as a head coach, record as a very capable recruiter, etc. Jack Hartman came to SIU as a juco head coach and was successful. Of course, then there is Van Winkle! 🤔 So there is that! Have at it boys! 😀
I’m sure I’m in the minority here but I’d love to see Kyle Smithpeters get a crack at the job. He’s recruited NBA players, and sustained success over a long time. Several of his guys have went P5 after going through his program.
And for those who talk about Mizzou having a terrible season, they also have two 5 star recruits coming in next season.
I believe I saw somewhere top 5 recruiting class in the country.I’m sure I’m in the minority here but I’d love to see Kyle Smithpeters get a crack at the job. He’s recruited NBA players, and sustained success over a long time. Several of his guys have went P5 after going through his program.

When the name Kyle Smithpeters come up, some of us old foagies are reminded of a time when SIU was looking for a new coach. They underwent a "nationwide" search. They found a very successful JUCO coach that was will to bring his star recruit with him to Carbondale. The coach's name was Allen Van Winkle. The star recruit was Kevin Willis, who ended up at Michigan St.

I'm admittedly old, but Rip Van Winkle was way before my time (was still in grade school) but his career record at SIU was 49-62, no?
As far as sustained success as a head coach, I was the head coach for soccer and during a 3 year stretch I lost only 3 games.... it doesn't matter that it was travel soccer though (mostly kidding!!! Except I really did only lose 3 games with that stacked team-lol). 🤣
I have no idea what Van Winkle's record was but frankly I'm surprised it was that good! I mentioned him as an example of a juco coach who certainly did not have success at SIU.I have no dog in this fight but I will point out that KYLE Smithpeters, based on his resume, is more qualified for the job than Bryan was when he was hired. That's correct. He was a subpar coach with a toxic personality. SIU also went on probation for violations that occurred on his watch.
Van Winkle was fired because he got sideways with the NCAA for paying players through a local chiropractor back when that sort of arrangement was illegal.
No damn way - sustained failure at Mizzou and I don't think any of his JC teams ever went far in the playoffs.
I'll be madder than a wet hen if they hire him.
