So, before we get too far beyond the coaching hire and selection process, I'd like to thank the Saluki-Insider guys for their patience with all of us (including me) as we kept asking some of the same questions over and over and kept finding reasons why we doubted what we were being told.   Kudos especially to Barkeep. THANKS!  Now we can obsess about the coming season which should be fun. 🙃

WOOF!

money quote from Coach Mullins:

I have only heard good things about Coach Beane. Good regional recruiter, develops talent, and a good in-game coach.  More of an offensive mind set than D, but he would be a fine addition to any program.

He might even be fit at Loyola, but I would hope he could get a shot as head coach somewhere. He is ready.

You need to talk to a few people in the coaching world. By all accounts coach Beane is a very good guy. But when it comes to willingness to go on the road, recruiting outside of the 30 mile area of Carbondale,  coaching etc....the reviews aren't as glowing.

I have. That’s why I said “regional”.

Well, not to pick nits but I would say " local" not regional. Regional would be the entire midwest in my opinion. According the people I know if its not between Harrisburg and Carbondale its essentially too far. Again, he is clearly liked by most, but not highly thought of in terms of being a top assistant coach.

How was the set up with BH.  What I mean, normally the head coach has final say as where/who to recruit.  I would think that assistant coaches went only where BH told them to go.  If that is no farther than the McDonalds in C'dale, then that's on BH only.

I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

On nearly all staff's the assistants are the guys who identify players at schools, camps, aau meets etc...they then identify the top recruits to focus on along with the head guy...the assistants have lots of leeway on where to go and when. Coach Beane , again is by nearly all accounts a very nice guy, but his reputation in coaching circles isn't particularly strong, for a number of reasons.

Nice one-on-one interview with Coach Kill.  With about a minute left he mentions they could possibly raise $14 million in a year 😲🤑

just for reference, what do we normally raise in a year?

Over on the Missouri State board, someone said they heard a rumor that former Missouri State assistant and SIUe head coach Jon Harris will be on Mullins' staff.

I wouldn't mind that.  Smithpeters, Brendan Mullins, and Harris would be good.  Although I've been hearing Smithpeters isn't a sure thing.

Adding Smithpeters to the staff would be huge IMO. To potentially make good on the Wolves and JALC pipeline would be a game changer. Its a shame SIU hasn't been able to tap into the talent in their own back yard.

Whether or not Smithpeters is in the fold, the JALC players will be back in play.  That was SOLELY a Hinson issue.
