I am so happy. SIU finally did the right thing.
Maybe it will start a trend that extend past athletics. You have to admit Women's Soccer was a good move.

I just don't understand why some folks think everybody we hire has to have an SIU connection. One of the biggest problems at SIU period is the incestuous nature of the University. I would be more than ok if no other SIU grads were on the staff. The head coach is one, thats plenty for me.
The biggest issue is we've hired folks that have had a serious lack of social skills along with really poor judgement. There are plenty former salukis (and others) that we won't cringe if they end up with a microphone in front of a camera. I'd be happy to bring on DB as an installed spare - he works well with kids, 150 basketball IQ, pure class, already coaches, and we could afford him.

By the way, may not be the correct thread, but does anyone know the actual buyout $$$$ amount for Hinson? I have heard $150K +/- and I have heard $350K +/-. Kill commented on providing the "full amount" but what is that amount? Just wondering.
$175K I believe.
How common is it for a school to honor the remaining contract for a coach who quit/ resigned/retired? You’d think there would be something in the contract that states the contract is void if the coach leaves on his own.

I think it's obvious he was going to be fired but they allowed him to quit and still get the 175,000
We are trying to organize a local chapter of the alumni association in my area and had a meeting last night. All anyone wanted to talk about was the coaching hire. Excitement level is off the charts.

Ocala/The Villages area in Florida. Surprising number of SIU grads here, most of whom are retired (although I'm not quite there yet).

They just opened a new chapter in the Villages. I read it and saw a picture in this month’s Alumni Assoc. Magazine.

Kill is giving him full contract value. $350k. The fake good ole boys gotta help each other out. Hope Kill doesn't encourage BBQ to sue us like he did.

What did Hinson do?
Hinson being Hinson. I'm not sure if it was just beneath him to have to deal with JALC or what, but he didn't have the time of day for anyone over there. He hated recruiting on top of it.

It comes down to how you interpret Kill's words about honoring the contract. Kill being a coach and saying that it's the right thing to do would cause me to lean towards the full amount.
Funny to hear Kill talking about honoring contracts. Didn't honor ours. Didn't honor NIU's. But it's the right thing to do.
Didn't see this anywhere. Heard it from the man.
