The reason Mullins or anyone else would put something like this in their contract is the obvious one. When A.D.'s leave the new guy usually wants his own coach. This protects the existing coach for a year until the AD can get to know him and also gives the coach time to decide whether he wants to look around .

I think Kill's potential for leaving is greatly tied to his health.  He's commented in the past that he loves Southern Illinois and plans to retire in the area.  Due to his bout with seizures, I don't know that he's looking for a higher profile opportunity, with added stress.

Yeah I see your point. I'll knock down the chances that he will leave again to 100%.

Killer isn't raising mounds of cash for nothing. Ride the gravy train while we can but it's not in his DNA to sit. Don't fall for the awe shucks crap.  He is a savy businessman.

I see what you're saying but that doesn't happen at this level. It hasn't happened at SIU. If Killer leaves tomorrow the contract gets a year added.  Bryan's protection is the 5 years left on the contract. It becomes more relevant closer to the end of the deal if you believe a new AD might be a threat.  Thank goodness BBQ didn't have that clause.

I really hope you all understand Bryan is not going to do things like Ford is. Ford is bringing in one/two years players to win now and get a better job.

Bryan is building a culture it will not happen overnight. He will win and win big but it may be year 4

I also expect Mullins to focus mostly on four-year guys, but in fairness to Ford, I believe he has at least four high school kids signed for next year, in addition to his transfers.

I think people know this and Mullins is gonna get a longer leash than any other coach would no matter what given his alumni status.  I know a lot less people care about football but Nick Hill is going into year 4 after 3 disastrous years and nobody really had him on the hot seat last year.

There were people just starting to get a little antsy on Nick with last year's turd. He will hear it more if there is little progress this year. Few had the expectations out of Nick that they've got for Bryan and basketball. Bryan will feel some serious heat if we win 22% of our games in year 3.

I don’t foresee it happening because I think Mullins is gonna kill it.  I think people know that this might not be all sunshine and roses at the beginning.  But I think people are more willing to give Mullins time than any other coach they would have hired.  BBQ Man results will be fine out of the gate as long as the program is being built the right way.

Oh I agree. Next season should be the worst and I don't think he will come close to crashing down to 22%. He will do fine.

BK, I actually think that Bryan might bring in a four year transfer or two this year and next  and possibly a freshman or two the spring , depending on defections etc. That said, overall I think he will build the program with mostly Freshman with a Juco  and transfer thrown in  here and there.

I would love to know, and I mean actually know the whole truth that's not for public consumption, what Bryan thinks of the guys that BH recruited.  Bryan might not be thrilled about the group of new guys -- redshirts and freshman coming in.

I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

He's mentioned a few times that he likes a couple key pieces after scouting them the past few years. As for the incoming recruits, I'm sure he's high on Lance Jones and Evan Taylor. As for Payton... who knows.

I've read that too.  What I read into it was that he liked a 'couple' of pieces.  There are more than a couple of red shirts and freshman.  How many would he like to pass on.  And believe me, forget about Payton.  Bryan, I'm sure, knows the whole back story of this kid and all the stories of Payton's family.  The kid walked out on his teammates halfway into the season.  Just ask the Bloomington High coach.  I know if Michael Jordan had all the same baggage, I wouldn't have wanted him.
