thanks for that info S4L. what did hinson do at the SLU game to force him to have to apologise? didn't hear about that.
"they aren't booing you, they are booing me."
I’d like to know what he said or did as well. This was about the last good game we’ve played so it must have been good.
I'm not slamming any players. Having said that, why do people think that this is such a talented group? Yes, by Chester Cheetos' standards it is, but I have never seen the talent level to get to the NCAA Tourney. Mostly 5th - 9th level players on good teams. None that should be on the Dukes of the world. The conversation on this board is always that this team should be a lights out winning club. I picked them 4th before the season started. Now that's looking way too high. Not tooting my own horn. I simply never saw it.
And I'm not using this as a reason to keep Chester. It's his lack of recruiting prowess that is directly accountable for a sub-par team. And we all know what a poor game coach he is. Only 1-2 guys leaving that I would be sorry to see go. But certainly nothing a good head coach/recruiter couldn't overcome in fairly short order.
How would the players be with an actual coach ? There is a lot of talent here. The fact it is misused can not be discounted
Our last search team was AD Mario Mochia, Provost John Nicklow, track and field coach Connie Price-Smith, broadcaster Greg Starrick, Faculty Chairman of Athletics Harold Bardo, former Board of Trustees chairman Roger Tedrick and booster Greg Cook.
I believe Rita Cheng, who was Chancellor du jour, was on the search committee too.
I believe that anyone that was even remotely responsible for hiring PT should not be allowed within a country mile of our next committee!!!!!!!!!!
Mike Mullins was a consultant to the committee and supported the decision.

I think it's a mix of recruiting being down along with poor coaching. We've never been in the mix frequently for 4 star recruits but we've gotten 2.5-3.5 star kids who got coached up. Now, we are getting 2-3 star kids and they are not getting the guidance to make them better players. I know many are worried about losing players (and recruits) when a coaching change is made, but I don't think they'll be high turnover as they'll be limited demand for those currently in the program. Think about it.....we are a .500 team in the Valley when the conference is probably as weak as it has been in years. Not many coaches are going to look at what Barry has built and see a gold mine there to plunder.

Schools will 100% be in on Cook, McGill, D. Beane, J. Beane and Peyton. No doubt about it.

Looks like a good starting five for next season!
McGill may be eligible as a Grad-Transfer next season.
Beane would be a mistake he is currently the main assistant coach that Hinson listens too. If you want more of the same hire Beane . We need new blood.
I am not sure Barry Hinson listens to anyone! I believe he feels it is beneath him to do such.

He listens to Bill Self.
I think Jimmy Beane may be stuck in an odd situation. He already loses this year of eligibility (but could gain it back at the end). I don't know how the transfer rules would apply to him. I'm guessing he would be eligible play immediately (if he makes grades) anywhere since he is not on scholarship, but I don't know for sure. Does anyone know if there any other stipulations in the NCAA rules for non-qualifiers that would hurt him if he moves to a new school?

Mike Mullins absolutely did not support the hiring of Barry Hinson. Not sure where you got that information but it is incorrect.

You are correct. I must have had two thoughts competing in my head! My mistake.
Mullins was a consultant, though. Barry tried to extend an olive branch to him after he was hired and Barry botched that.

It will be up to the new coach to sell the current players and recruits for next season on the program, coaching style, and newly invigorated fan base. The Beane situation may not go well for SIU. If the new coach decides not to keep Beane Sr. around we likely lose Darius and Jimmy.
I would think we would lose them also if Beane is not retained. There may have been some thought on that when Darius decided not to redshirt (though he didn't need to do that anyway from a talent/ability standpoint, but just thinking out loud). So he still has that available to him to transfer. Would hate to see either one of them go, Darius is a special talent and great fun to watch. But what will be, will be and the higher priority at this point is a new coach.
Somebody needs to hit the lottery. Looks like Shaka could be available soon

Well, okay, I guess somebody has to do it. I volunteer to win the lottery.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
